Pretty Art, No Depth
by June -
The age choices that too many of these authors decided on were questionable at best. I have no problems with age gaps, like a 35y/o with a 25 y/o. I wish that were the case for most of the stories in Eclair. However, a 25y/o engaging in a relationship with a 15y/o is wildly inappropriate because they're at different stages in their lives—to a normal adult, a teen is an easy target and a child. A few characters looked/are as young as 10 which is just like...why. I can see why some power dynamics can be attractive (ex: professor/student) because ~forbidden attraction~ but there are better ways to write it. In "The Unemployed Woman and the High School Girl", the 30y/o acknowledges many times that the girl is a child. Romanticizing this is a gross misuse of the platform and so irresponsible. Other stories are either cute/fluffy or has consent issues, manipulation, bullying, etc. Of 15 stories, only 3 made my purchase worthwhile (got it for Nakatani). Would I buy it knowing all this? No.
A great collection of stories by leading Yuri authors
by cydrake -
The stories range from lighthearted, joyful, and a bit silly to some that are bittersweet. I had a good time reading all of them and was delighted by the content. These are some of my favorite Yuri authors and you can see their collective skills on full display in this collaboration.
An Excellent Sampler
by BC -
As an anthology, Eclair covers a wide range of stories from leading yuri manga artists. With relationships ranging from familial to erotic (within the confines of 16+ rating), healthy to less-so, there are stories to match any palate.
My only complaint is in the length: with 16 stories packed into 267 pages, there isn't enough time for the depth that I have come to expect from yuri. Treat this as an excellent sampler of different artists, and you won't be disappointed!
A sweet group of stories that warm the heart
by Tsukasa
As is usually the case with anthologies, the stories included here are hit or miss. However, several stories in the book are excellent, including Nio Nakatani's and Canno's contributions. A must read for yuri fans.
