An interesting move for Studio Ghibli, but sadly it just fell short.

I much prefer 2d works, but I was willing to give this one a chance. Overall, this is my least favorite Ghibli film. It’s not bad, but there wasn’t really much to it. First off, it’s weird seeing anime in CG form, but it wasn’t all bad. There’s lots of expressions, but some just look odd. I liked the character designs, especially the Mandrake towards the end. Wish they did more with that. The music is great, but it doesn’t quite fit the Ghibli style. The weakest part was the story cause not much happens. It’s mostly set in 1 location and it just shows Earwig doing chores and trying to get revenge on the witch. When you think it’s getting to the main story where all will be revealed, it just ends.... umm. What!? How does it end right there? I thought I missed something or maybe there was more after the credits but no. All the things you thought meant something or play a bigger role later on goes out the window and leaves questions un-answered. It really brought the movie down for me.

Not a good movie, especially for Ghibli

This movie was a disappointment. The only interesting character we barely ever see, no questions about the plot are answered at all.

The only redeeming quality about the entire movie was the song don't disturb me. It's a Bop, but it's not enough to save this trash

This isn't a movie for O-Jii-san

Hayao Miyazaki makes timeless classics for all ages.
Goro isn't Hayao. Realize this and you can really enjoy this movie.
Goro Miyazaki made a movie for kids, not old men, in his own words.
This is a movie that kids will not only love, but a story they need, to be reassured that they are loved and are special.
If it's not for you, then it's not for you.

Goro also masterfully blends his onw, personal stile with CGI and traditional, hand drawn and painted elements to create a beautiful, and sometimes childishly disguising world.

Embrace the future of studio Ghibli.
