The Best Dragon Ball Movie Yet

by

OK. So I've been a fan of the series since I was a wee-little weeb during the Toonami run of the show. I've seen most of the movies, the good, the bad, and the ugly (Dear God, that Bio Broly am I right?). Having said that, I can confidently say this is the best one; especially in terms of action and animation.
The first half of the movie is laid back and fairly comical. You do get most of your exposition dump and backstory in the first half but if you stay patient I swear you are in for a dragon ball treat. The last half really is nonstop battle. Barely any interruptions.
I know that Dragon Ball Super (the show) has criticism against it for lazy/low budget animation and there is none of that here. VERY high quality and creative battles. The only issue some veteran fans may have is that our dear Broly isn't exactly the cool villian we all expected him to be in this interpretation of the character but don't let that stop you from watching this. It is absolutely worth a watch

Over a year later and Funimation still hasn't fixed the green tint

by

This release of the movie has a green tint due to a problem with Funimation's transfer/conversion process from their film master. The issue was not present in the theatrical run of the movie, so it is not an issue with their film master. It's been over a year since the blu-ray and DVD was first released and Funimation still refuses to fix the problem.

If you want the movie, I would recommend either buying the Manga UK release (it has the Funimation dub but does not have the green tint issue, but it is locked to Region B players, while the Americas are in Region A) or the Japanese release (which does not have the English dub or subtitles). Funimation is aware of the issue with their release but they've chosen not to fix it.

There is no reason why a consumer should have to put up with an inferior video quality release just because the company behind the release doesn't want to fix it.

A Good Story and Entry Point

by -

Dragon Ball has been popular for so long and there's so much associated with it that sometimes it can be a bit alienating to a new viewer (lookin' at you, Battle of Gods). But this movie manages to give you everything you need to know within its own runtime while setting up and paying off an exciting story with great animation and well rendered fight scenes.

Even though a good chunk of the movie is fighting, it doesn't feel like it drags. There's enough character stuff going on to give you a good sense of each of the major players so that the fighting has weight, which is helped by keeping the focus on just a few of Dragon Ball's huge cast. Quality over quantity here.

I watched all three Dragon Ball Super movies with my friends as a new viewer, and of the three, I enjoyed this one enough to want a copy for myself. It's some good stuff.
