As the two meet after school, they bond through songs and begin to harmonize as their hearts beat together.
It starts out slowly but soon their feelings for one another grow and suddenly they both realize that they are in love. Hikaru's emotions are frivolous, pure and direct causing Licht to hesitate at first, but he gradually opens his heart. Doukyusei (Classmates) Blu Ray Review
by Kolin -
Not gonna lie, this is one of the nicest sets I own. It's packaging quality is comparable to a low-tier japanese set. To describe the box that houses everything, it isn't the plasticky feeling material used with the Monogatari singles, nor the velvety paper used with the magi dvd sets, but somewhere in-between (and is thicker than both, thankfully.) It certainly isn't chipboard but it has a satisfying sturdiness. The blu ray case is boring, the booklet textured and high quality, and the postcards cute but a bit smaller than usual. As for the actual movie, everything is great (sound, video, subs.) One thing I wish this release had is the soundtrack, which should have been done at this price point and is why I deducted a star.
Shame on you Aniplex for not releasing a standard edition. Forcing people to go collector or bust is shamelessly greedy, even moreso since this great film will probably never see another release. But who am I to judge, I support you, so shame on me I guess.

Doukyusei is a short, sweet, and simple story about two students at an all-boys school who fall in love. It sounds like a tired cliche, but what sets this film apart from other works is that it is free of the gross, negative tropes that are ever-present in the BL genre.
Instead the drama stem from problems any teenage couple would face. Doubts, insecurities, what will happen in the future? And it's handled beautifully.
And I love that the characters are really relatable, and that paired with the SUPERB voice acting (Hiroshi Kamiya and Nojima Kenji did excellent jobs portraying their characters) makes them feel like real teenage boys going through the ups and downs of being in a romantic relationship.
Aside from being a great story, the animation is gorgeous and the soundtrack, although simplistic (like everything else in this film) will tug at your heartstrings.
Please do yourself a favor and watch it!
Doukyusei Blu-Ray Box Set

A great purchase for those who loved this movie, or for those who like BL. A sweet tale of finding love in one of your classmates (and through music!). The box set art is clean and shares the same art style of the film. The box is sturdy and the shorter Blu-Ray size, versus full size, so it will fit nicely on a shelf or wherever you choose to keep your anime collection! The Blu-Ray box is beautiful as well and depicts sketches from the movie. I like simple, clean dvd designs, so I really gravitated toward the packaging for this movie. The postcards are cute and even have a simple sketch on the back. A nice touch! The accompanying book is made of textured paper and holds various art, sketches, an interview with the author, and a special manga short that continues a scene from the movie (it's really cute!). Overall, I definitely think it's worth the price in order to add this one to your collection. Happy Watching!
Exactly as Promised and Appreciated
I purchased this Blu-Ray set, and I am very happy with the packaging quality and condition of my purchase. The included goodies were exactly as stated in the product description, and the shipping was fast.
The movie in general is very sweet, very touching, and enjoyable. I'd definitely recommend it.
Wonderful film, box worth the extra $$$.

A fantastic hour long feature about high school romance between two boys that, surprise surprise, doesn't delve into almost any of the problematic elements that are emblematic in a lot of other BL stuff. The only small thing is a short scene with one of the teachers acting a bit too flirty, but he's reprimanded and it's seen as a creepy thing. It's well animated, looks soft and clean, and the characters are all interesting to watch.
The packaging is also great. I was hesitant to fork over 60 bucks for an hour long movie but the booklet that it comes with has a lot of interesting information on it's creation. The box also just feels right, sturdy but light. That being said, I wouldn't put it against you if you're not up to spending that much cash, hopefully they'll be a cheaper way for people to see this fantastic little film.
A gorgeous show with nice extras

This is probably one of the nicest box sets I own. It's sturdy and comes with a lovely booklet and several illustration cards, making it an excellent collectible. The price point is a bit high for a single movie, but the quality of the film itself plus the nice extras still made it a worthwhile purchase.
The movie itself is a gorgeous adaptation of the first part of Asumiko Nakamura's manga by the same name, and has a gorgeous, unusually-detailed animation style with a dreamy, elegant style of animation that nevertheless really captures the lanky, long-limbed feeling of the characters. The story is a sweet BL about the romance between two students, a carefree bisexual boy who's more interested in his musical hobbies than his academic career who falls in love easily, and an anxious gay boy who's hyper-conscious about how he appears to others and has a hard time believing himself to be worthy of love. I hope the studio adapts more of this manga in the future!
