These are the adventures of Kei and Yuri, two official Trouble Consultants for the World Welfare Works Association who use their brains, brawn, and looks to solve any problem. They call themselves the "Lovely Angels," but because their solutions often result in chaos and mass destruction, the rest of the universe has dubbed them the "Dirty Pair"!

The treatment this classic deserves!

by

Dirty Pair is the prototypical "Girls with Guns" anime. If Noir, Burst Angel, Ergo Proxy, Madlax etc are your cup of tea, consider learning your roots and picking up this set. Here you have episodes 1-13 (the first half of the TV series) introducing Yuri and Kei, two ditzy WWWA agents called the Lovely Angels (but unofficially called the "Dirty Pair"). They mean well as they attempt to serve as Welfare agents but somehow always manage to drop the ball on their task. If you like sexy, action-packed hilarity and appreciate some old-school hand-drawn animation, look no further. Animation from Sunrise (Cowboy Bebop, Outlaw Star, Gundam) is given a beautiful DVD presentation here courtesy of Nozomi. This show has never looked better and the picture quality is stellar. Consider this your entry point for the Dirty Pair universe!

Worst...Heroes...Ever!

Good lord, do these gals totally destroy more than they save!

You ever wonder how much collateral damage superheroes do in the process of trying to save one person? Superman or Spiderman come immediately to mind. But these two blow up a planet after stopping a gang war...

Mission success?

Loads of fun, and I laughed all the way through!

Highly recommended.

The 1985 Dirty Pair TV show...

...is a wonderful combination of topnotch action sequences and really well timed romantic comedy and slapstick!

A True 80's Classic

by -

This was first conceived as a series of novels merging space opera with women's pro wrestling (WWWA=World Women's Wrestling Association). When adapted to an anime, the producers turned it into something more like a buddy-cop show in space.

The result is an undisputed classic, at least if you like the Lethal Weapon films. There is a great deal of fun, quirky characters, mass destruction, comedic banter and fights, and general 80's cheese. It's also extremely episodic, with no overarching plot to speak of, little character development, and only a few things that carry over to subsequent episodes (usually for a laugh). But it's not trying to be anything deeper anyway, so who cares?

Considering its age and quirky nature, it's not for everyone. But again, if you like your 80's action comedies, this is likely to be a big hit.
