Absolutely Better Than The Movie!

by -

I was delighted with the all new prelude story taking place around the train station in the first episode, along with the many additional scenes/sequences included in this TV version of the "Mugen Train" arc as everything flowed significantly smoother over the movie. Especially, the 'mystery solved' regarding why Rengoku acquired all those bento boxes prior to boarding the train. I was also pleased with the new art work of the digi-pack design, two 'Video Scrolls' with production highlights, but no art book included for this release was a slight disappointment though.

In addition, a new soundtrack CD with eleven new tracks, LiSA sings the new upbeat opening song "Akebashi" and LiSA also closes singing "Shuregane" as well. A recommended buy for the great additional content that equals or surpasses the movie's animation, and provides a more complete story on the Flame Hashira, Kyojuro Rengoku!

More is not necessarily better

by -

Normally, the episode arcs are more satisfying than motion picture arcs. The additional footage adds to the continuity of the series as gaps and back stories are filled in.
However, more is not necessarily better when it comes to emotional content. After the conclusion of the episode arc, the weight of the climax seemed to lack that extra special thing that makes Demon Slayer Kimetsu no Yaiba one of the best of the medium. Maybe the additional content reduced the "tightness" of the story. Maybe it's the breaks between each episode. Maybe I had an unrealistic expectation. I just can't put my finger on it.
Would I still buy the episode version of the Mugan Train arc? I still say yes for the reason of backfilling the gaps that the motion picture left out. If you want to feel the emotional power that separates this title from the rest, watch the motion picture.
