About Dekoboko Sugar Days Manga

Dekoboko Sugar Days manga features story and art by Atsuko Yusen.

Yuujirou Matsukaze has been close friends with Rui Hanamine since the two of them were children, and at that time, Yuujirou was the one who stood up for and took care of his adorable, soft-hearted friend. But as it turns out, Yuujirou's childhood dreams end up growing a little too big to handle - or, rather, too tall! At over six feet in height, the cheerful and happy-go-lucky Rui towers over his would-be protector... and still has no idea Yuujirou's had a crush on him since they were kids!

Wholesome, Adorable and Absolutely Perfect Couple

by -

If you haven't read this manga yet, do it! It's an entire story wrapped in 1 volume, and the character growth between both main characters is great. Their bromance relationship to pure romance relationship felt really natural. Plus, for those looking for action in their yaois, their is in fact action. Just more towards the end because, as I said, their relationship didn't just go straight into it. The artwork is cute and is very pretty. Again, can't recommend this manga enough.

Ah... the days of youth... like the scent of fresh lemon. You see.

If you just want a sweet, adorable, first love yaoi one-shot, I don't think you'd be able to do much better than this. Granted, I'm not an expert, but the level of warm and fuzzies I felt over the course of this book were off the charts, so I feel like it did something very right regardless. What's interesting for a book of this length is that both main characters serve as narrators, with some chapters from Yuujiro's perspective and some from Rui's, and sometimes both overlapping. The romance builds and finally crescendos at a brisk but not unrealistic pace, and it's a joy to see the boys finally recognize their feelings for each other. Further realism points awarded for addressing gay sex preparation and homophobia.

A few minor criticisms: once our couple gets together, their respective confidants are essentially written out, and none of the female characters except Rui's sister and Yuujiro's mother have eyes. But the former is maybe setting up for a sequel, so I'll take it.

One of the best single volumes I've read

by -

Absolutely ADORED this manga. Plot wise it's very simple but the simplicity doesn't take away from the overall sweetness. Of course this is dependent on the person but I think this would make a wonderful addition to any manga collection and really it's a nice quick read for when you want something light yet juicy.

Solid Choice

Cute one-off story with cohesive plot. Art is solid. Tokyo Pop print quality superb per usual. Rated Mature, but not the keystone of the manga. Should you buy?... Yes! (assuming you like BL/YAOI).

Perfect story and characters

by -

Absolutely awesome story. It was very cute and wholesome. It described the characters feelings very clear and had a good story without any confusing jumps or cuts. I would definitely recommend if you like a cute and wholesome couple story. The characters are very lovely and you don't hate anyone at the end.

Compared to some of the other manga that I bought when I got this one I was a little skeptical at first but I actually really enjoyed reading it. I am kind of glad the way it starts out makes it really different to all the other manga I am reading and really helps it stand out. I truly recommend it you will not be disappointed.

Thinking About It? Get It!

by

I enjoyed this as my second ever BL Manga. I just started to purchase more physical copies (rather than read online) and I’m glad I did. This manga is a pretty good mix of romance, friendship, and everything else you might expect. For less than $15 USD, it’s really worth every penny. The art is also drawn very pretty, I absolutely adore all the characters. Definitely recommend (even as a gift)!

Doesn't Live Up to the Hype

by

I feel that this was a bit overrated. I was really underwhelmed when I finally got the book and read it because it just seemed really unoriginal and the characters personalities weren't super expressed. I will say though the second volume is much much better! The second book saved the series in my opinion.
