Decapitation Kubikiri Cycle Novel
About Decapitation Kubikiri Cycle Novel
Decapitation: Kubikiri Cycle The Blue Savant and the Nonsense User is written by NISIOISIN. It is the first volume in the Zaregoto series.
A dropout from an elite Houston-based program for teens is on a visit to a private island. Its mistress, virtually marooned there, surrounds herself with geniuses, especially of the young and female kind—one of whom ends up headless one fine morning.
The top-selling novelist year by year in his native Japan, prolific palindromic phenomenon NISIOISIN made his debut when he was only twenty with this Mephisto Award winner, a whodunit and locked-room mystery at once old-school and eye-opening.
Previously published stateside by Del Rey, the translation has been retitled and revised just in time for the long-requested animated series based on illustrator Take’s character concepts.

A Nisioisin classic
by Angel -
Worthy of it's high acclaim, Decapitation Kubikiri Cycle, is one of the first of many novels in the Zaregoto series. Nisioisin (author of the Monogatari series) really nailed down the allure that many mystery novels possess.
A staple NisioisiN story with a medicore translation
by Two-Beat -
While he dabbles in all genres NisioisiN has a particular passion for mysteries and his Zaregoto series displays his intimate familiarity as well as his postmodernist approach to writing. Many of his usual themes are on display: the nature of genius, the counter-intuitive wholesomeness of the bad-natured, the filthiness of pure Love. By playing around with mystery structures we get several layers that are peeled back and while some readers may think it's trying to be too clever for its own good if you click with Nisio's style you'll be intrigued and entertained.
Unfortunately the reprint and retranslation isn't much better than the old one; for example one character is named for the Iliad and this is mentioned in the text but her name is romanized as Iria rather than Ilia. Lots of little things and a general dryness to the tone add up.
A weird and clever mystery light novel.

zaregoto is all in all a mystery novel. And as many may know, mystery novels are usually carried by their cast. Zaregoto does not disappoint. Every character is filled with personality. Insert said characters into a murder mystery with a particularly interesting set up. Add NISIOISIN's smart, snappy, and entertaining dialogue, a borderline sociopath main character, And you can expect to have a great time.
Great Unreliable Narrator/Mystery
by JOSEPH
If you like unreliable narrators and locked-room murder mysteries, then this book and series are for you!
At first, it takes a while to get used to the narrator's voice, but as long as you like it after a few chapters, then you'll probably enjoy this story a lot. Its biggest payoff is the final chapter which introduces a great character to put all the unreliable narrative into perspective. Highly recommended.
