A Very Well-Constructed Anime, One of the Best I've Seen!
by tomikaze -
Hands-down one of the best anime series I have ever watched. I bought this and didn't watch it until much later and was then overwhelmingly surprised. I don't wish to talk it up too much but I can assure you I will watch this again and again. The music, the pacing, the intellect of the characters, even the behind-the-scenes bits were highly enjoyable. This is easily in my top 10 all time favorites. Impressed.
The Hype Is Noted
Death Note is one of the few anime that are super hyped and often suggested to the non- and casual anime viewer. It has a lot going for it. Many of the ideas in it are interesting and well executed. Characters are more than simple caricatures and the plotting is dense. It can be an exciting, wild rollercoaster ride to see the strategies employed by the major players. The animation is smooth and the neurotic tricks that are explained in a Case Closed/detective fashion might baffle. Does all this mean it lives up to the hype? Not quite. Characters who are developed and humanized tend to veer off into unrelatable territory. What is enjoyable from a gumshoe and sleuth angle becomes a difficult-to-digest paranoid mess. Death Note has intrigue and appeal, but it might not be enough to keep someone interested in the long run.
great for collectors

im rating the packaging and the dvds themselves, not the show. Obviously if youre buying this youve probably seen the show so no need to review it.
this comes with two dvd cases, each with six dvds. on one dvd case there is light, and on the second L is on it. the two dvds are inside of this black holding box that looks like the death note, pretty awesome and will look great on my shelf. each dvd has 4 episodes, which is kind of annoying because that means every hour or so you have to change the disc out, but i mean i can get over it lol.
overall happy with my purchase and once again, right stuf packaged it wonderfully!
