About Dagashi Kashi Blu-ray/DVD

Dagashi Kashi contains episodes 1-12.

What’s salty, bursting with flavor, and just a touch crunchy? The most perfect snack Umai-bou, of course! Oh, but then there’s also Fue Ramune, Baby Star Ramen, and the iconic Sakuma Drops. And you can’t forget about Wata-Pachi. So many tasty things get in my mouth already!

Welcome to Shikada Dagashi where your sweet tooth can find heaven. Ninth in line to run this fine establishment, Kokonotsu Shikada aka “Coconuts”  would rather spend his time creating manga than thinking about Dagashi. But when a strange girl named Hotaru appears at the shop to recruit his dad, he’s suddenly pulled into her world of snack food obsession! Determined to make Kokonotsu realize his calling, Hotaru visits the shop daily to discuss the beauty, ingenuity, and overall taste of Japan’s famous snacks. Will her love of snacks, and maybe more, rub off on him? Get ready to sink your teeth into these tantalizing delights!

A Sweet and Fun Anime

by

A simple slice of life anime filled with fun characters covering the interesting premise of "dagashi" (or japanese snakes). It's really entertaining and I found myself actually learning about different japanese snacks and culture while I watched.

A great series that has some cool stories about interesting candies. Also has some great voice actors as well.

Toothsome humor

Shikada Kokonotsu’s an aspiring manga author and scion of a sleepy candy (dagashi) shop in a seaside backwater. He can’t wait to get away from his dad’s dead end profession and hit it big with his art and story-telling. He’s minding the store and drawing his umpteenth rendition of his dream girl when her spitting image waltzes into the place. The trouble is she’s nice enough to look upon but once Shidare Hotaru opens her mouth and puts on a pose it’s clear she’s a raving lunatic. A lunatic that raves about candy and snacks because she’s heiress to a big candy maker and she wants to recruit Kokonotsu’s dad for the firm. Can Hotaru convince Kokonatsu that his true calling is running a candy shop? And will crush-ridden childhood friend Endo Saya help Hotaru keep Kokonatsu in town? A grand tour of the world of Japanese snacks and sweets as Kokonatsu and Hotaru share their knowledge and love for dagashi in a charmingly fun show.

Teenage Kokonutsu dreams of escaping his small town and making it in the world of manga. Hotaru his new buxom crazy friend and wealthy daughter of a well known snack company is adamant about him succeeding his father as 9th in line to own a small snack shop out in the sticks. His best friend Tou the relatively out of touch guy and Tou’s sister Saya -the childhood friend, flat, mal- tempered, but totally secretly in love with him girl; seem to welcome odd Hotaru into their lives and especially the shack shop. Navigating through a litany of Japanese snacks and his “will he /won’t he” relationship with the girls fills out most of the show with a lot of comedy.

Sweet Anine

An anime about candy for people with a sweet tooth. Made me want some dagashi so hey maybe others would be interested

I wouldn't reommend buying this without seeing it first

I buy everything I watch. I don't stream. So, I hadn't watched this before buying it, and while it wasn't a waste of money, it wasn't worth it. They spend almost the entire time talking about Japanese candy and snacks (which seem to be grouped together under the term dagashi) and their history, which can be interesting but is not particularly entertaining. Most of the entertainment comes from Hotaru's crazy antics as she tries off the wall ways to explain why some snack or other is great. The fact that she's supposedly trying to convince Kokonotsu to take over his father's dagashi store doesn't even enter into the story much (not that there's much story), and his dream to become a mangaka doesn't come up much either. Almost everything is about Hotaru's antics while trying to get folks excited about dagashi.

So overall, this is mildly entertaining, but it strikes me as more the sort of thing that might be worth watching if it happened to be on TV than something that's worth paying for.
