About DENKI-GAI Collector's Edition Blu-ray/DVD 1 + CD

DENKI-GAI 1 Collector's Edition contains episodes 1-4 of the anime directed by Masafumi Sato, plus a special character song CD, a 24-page deluxe booklet "Umanohone Magazine 1 & 2", two collectible wall pin-up pictures illustrated by Asato Mizu (author of the original manga), and a double-sided poster illustrated by SIN-EI ANIMATION.

A blush-inducing, coming-of-age comedy about manga-loving book store employees! The characters are all hard-core manga fans and maniacs of some sort, and work at the comic shop "Uma no Hone." On a daily basis, they display new releases, shrink-wrap comics, shudder at their lack of feminine qualities, question their love for porn literature... and basically have fun while working hard (?). Girls and guys call each other by nicknames and some begin to develop close relationships!

Special Features: Clean Opening and Closing (Special O.A. Version), TV Commercial Collection.

Spoken Languages: Japanese, English subtitles, Spanish subtitles.

this is a bad idea

Don't get me wrong I love DENKI-GAI it was one of my favourites of this year and I was super happy to find out it was going to be released on dvd. Unfortunately its not dubbed but I can live with that. But I've boughten a lot of anime in my time and this deal sucks. 4 episodes for 70+ dollars is a rip off I personally would pay no more than 40$. But I understand that it comes with both dvd and blue ray which I love and all the bonus content and collectibles which are cool to have. But DENKI-GAI has 12 episodes so 3 vols total 70x3= 210$ which is way to much. Funimation does dvd blue ray combo releases which are good and sell for around 60-80 but they have all the episodes which makes it worth it. I would rather pay 100$ for DENKI-GAI with all the episodes on it than pay 210 for 3 separate vols. But if you plan to continue to release anime in volumes instead of complete seasons I would rather wait for a DENKI-GAI season 1 for 70$. Sorry if I ranted a little to much but from a customers point of view who buys a lot of anime this deal sucks.

Not Bad.....not great either.

I personally liked this show a lot. It is somewhat of a parody show (in the vein of Excel Saga, but not nearly as madcap). The story is fairly episodic, and while there are a few elements that get carried over for the entire series, it's not something that would need to be remembered.

The packaging is pretty nice. It comes in an oversized (thing early NIS box) DVD case with a slipcover. Inside is a booklet with character profiles, voice actor/director interviews, a decent sized poster, and two smaller posters (more like oversized postcards, and made out of thicker material than a normal poster).

I like the packaging and the extras, and realize it may not be for everyone. Even so, if you want a good slice of life/comedy series, you should give it a shot.

The price is no good

by

There is nothing in this in my opinion that make it worth the price. If it was the complete series, that would a lot more acceptable, but at 3 episodes it just feels like a rip off. The magazine has 5 pages of "reviews", but they are really just ads. I don't think Pony Canyon has much respect for their customers, and feel kind of ripped off.

Not good value.

I like this series when Crunchyroll was simulcasting it and would like to add it to my collection, but can't justify it at this price with what's included. I can get NIS collectors editions for series from the same time that include more with better quality (hard cover art book and complete series etc) for more than $ 20 cheaper. If it was the entire series for that price, it'd still be a bit high but I'd feel a lot better about buying it. As it stands the first box is all I will ever buy unless it gets a lot cheaper or the full series gets released in one package at similar price point. Sorry but this just sours me on the whole thing.

Excellent COLLECTORS item.

The show is great, it's witty and funny and an excellent show that reminded me of Genshiken when i watched it. But i would like to talk about the physical release of the show instead. what we get here is a DVD, Blu-ray, Audio CD, art prints, character cards, and with my pre-order about a dozen original sheets sketches from the studio. the packaging comes in a hard plastic over sized box, with a plastic slip cover. No cardboard or tag board to fray. in my opinion, this is the highest quality set i have seen released within North America. Yes, this is $70 for 3 episodes, if you want to watch the show head over to crunchyroll and steam it there, way worth the time. if you want to at a high quality piece to your anime collection this is where you want to look. All in all if you want to enjoy the show, stream it, but if you want a high quality piece for a collection, this is what you want to look at and this is where i think the quality of collectors releases should be heading.

Good Collectors Set

by -

The set comes in an oversized plastic case (think the size that NIS used to have), with a reversible cover, CD soundtrack, poster, and booklet.

The series itself is pretty funny-more parody than anything, which I like. I kind of wish the story would go somewhere, but overall, a good set for the price.

Awesome show.

I didn't know much about Denki Gai when I tried it, but it quickly became one of my favorites. I tend to compare it a bit to Wagnaria, another of my favorites. That's a show I often describe as a bunch of neurotics working at a restaurant. Denki Gai is another group of neurotics working at a manga store. It's primarily a comedy with some moments that parody anime/manga and their fans. There are some more serious scenes used to show the relationships among the characters, but it never gets overly dramatic. I guess it could be criticized as being a typical slice of life affair with no overlying plot, but it holds up well enough on its own merits that it doesn't really matter. My rating is for the show itself, as for whether it's worth the steep price...that you'll have to decide for yourself. What I can say is that everything included as well as the packaging is all high quality.

Good Anime, Meh Boxset

by -

My rating is not for the anime but the release it received.

I enjoyed this anime so I was happy for it to get a release even if there is no dub, when PonycanUS mentioned how the package would look like I was abit confused as to what the material would be as this is there first release in North America

I purchased this anime during the GWP which came with sketches which I guess made it a tiny bit ok with the price I had to pay for but its sad for people now who have to pay same amount of money while receiving less

Once I got the package it was abit disappointing as the size was to big and the way the CDs were put in the case was very weird to me as at first glance you don't see the soundtrack till you have to investigate the box

Other then that if you like this anime go for it

This set is for people looking for quality in video and audio clarity in anime.

by -

I see people getting butt hurt over the price and yes i would also agree BUT, at the same time im ok with the price Pony Canyo gave this set. Funimation blu ray releases are horrible and underwhelming, they stick way to many episodes on to one disk, and for some strange reason for most if not all of their releases they add some blur filter over it. When i first put in the disc for Denki Gai i saw where my money went, the picture quality was superb and the audio was nice and crisp both in witch funimation lacks in. Now what i feel Pony Canyo should do is release the 3 in a regular edition for about 40-50 and feel this could be a happy medium for people looking for quality in video and audio clarity. Oh and the show was a fun watch ;)

What a joke.

$250 for a 12-episode series with minimal special features. The enormous jewel cases are interesting, but the cost is outrageous. Ponycan only have two releases under their belt, and so far I'm not impressed.

OH, MY WALLET

by

ugh. 90 bucks for 4 episodes. I wouldn't pay that much for unlimited blade works, and this doesn't have that budget.
(maybe for the full season + goodies, but 4 eps is a deal breaker)
