In a fictional 19th century England, Allen Walker is a 15-year-old boy who roams the earth in search of Innocence. Washed away to unknown parts of the world after The Great Flood, Innocence is the mysterious substance used to create weapons that obliterate demons known as akuma.
A born exorcist, Walker's primary anti-akuma weapon is the cross that's embossed on his red, disfigured left hand, which contains Innocence. But not only does Walker destroy akuma, he sees the akuma hiding inside a person's soul! Together with his fellow exorcists fighting under the command of the Black Order, Walker leads the battle against the Millennium Earl, the evil being out to destroy mankind.

A haunting story with mind-blowing action!

I bought this on a whim because I needed something new and it was there, and my expectations were completely exceeded! I ended up placing an order for the rest of it immediately. A darker brand of shonen, D. Grayman is fantastic in writing of plot and characters and beautiful artwork. If you liked Death Note or anything similar and enjoy fight scenes similar to Bleach, D. Grayman is perfect for you. The characters are lovable and the plot is involving. If you have the spare time and money, pick it up! You won't regret it.

A masterpiece. This series deserves more attention and love. Would love to see the rerelease hardcovers releasing in japan get english counterparts.
Unfortunately the series publishes slowly, but at least the hiatus years are over.
Amazing art style, story that spans an intriguing world, and a tone that spirals into darkness.

The art is amazing and very detailed. I found the characters to be interesting. The story itself has a mixture of action and humor. Overall, the first volume introduces some of the characters and it's near the last couple of chapters of the volume where you find out what the actual plot is about. I can't wait to read the next volume!
