About Cyber City Oedo 808 Blu-ray

Cyber City Oedo 808 contains episodes 1-3 of the OVA directed by Yoshiaki Kawajiri.

From the director of Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust, and Wicked City!

The year is 2808. The place: Oedo, a cybernetic megalopolis of the future where the dreams of a brighter tomorrow are drowning in a tide of violence, vice, and villainy. Driven to breaking point, the forces of law and order are left with no choice but to use the very criminals they capture to help hunt their own kind.

Enter hardened cybercriminals Sengoku, Gogul, and Benten. Presented by police chief Hasegawa with a stark choice, they must decide to either rot in jail for the rest of their lives, or join a special force of the Cyber Police and possibly get one more chance at freedom. With their less than subtle blend of extreme violence and excessive swearing, some hard justice is coming to Oedo.

With each criminal apprehended and each successful mission completed, the state will agree to reduce their sentences. But with each of them serving a 300-year stretch, and Hasegawa keeping them in line with explosive collars, will they survive long enough to be free men once again?

Featuring the original Japanese language with English subtitles, and both the US and UK versions of the English dub!

An HD upgrade with a nice bonus.

There's not really anything to say about this anime that hasn't been said over the years. If you love cyberpunk, the 80s, cheesy action and an english dub with some great one-liners then Cyber City Oedo 808 is something you should already be familiar with.

The visuals on the DVD transfer already looked solid (even on an HD tv) and, of course, the blu-ray is even better.

All the cyberpunk cityscapes, futuristic neo-noir backdrops and over-the-top action scenes look just as fantastic in HD as one could hope.

The blu ray also includes the old UK soundtrack. Something the DVD releases didn't include. That's a nice bonus if you already have the DVD. I would've gotten it regardless just because Cyber City is such perfect 80s sci-fi action cheese. That being said, it's always great when old dubs and soundtracks can get salvaged and put out in physical media releases instead of being lost in litigation limbo, destroyed or simply forgotten.

Worth The Money

A beautiful remaster with plenty of audio options. I enjoy the story, setting and choice of soundtrack. I would suggest this to any old school anime fan, particularly fans of AD Police, Ninja Scroll, or Ghost In The Shell.
