About Cutie Honey DVD

Cutie Honey Complete Collection contains episodes 1-25 of the original 1973 TV series.

One day, Honey Kisaragi's a trendy, class-cutting Catholic schoolgirl. The next, her father's been murdered by demonic divas from a dastardly organization called Panther Claw. When his dying message reveals that she's an android, Honey uses the transformative power of the Atmospheric Element Solidifier - the very thing Panther Claw wanted to steal - to seek revenge against the shadowy clan.

Can Honey fight her way up Panther Claw's ranks to defeat its leader, the sinister Sister Jill, while managing to escape the watchful eyes of Miss Histler, her school's headmistress?

Aided by journalist Hayami Seiji, his ninja father, and his lady-loving grade school brother, Honey sometimes appears as a racecar driver, sometimes as a glamorous model, and sometimes as a beggar, but her true identity is none other than the warrior of love, Cutie Honey!

Finally!

by -

The original 1973 Cutie Honey series has finally arrived in the US!

If you don't know about Cutie Honey, this is the story of Honey Kisaragi's quest against an evil organization called Panther Claw. She uses the technology her father created to change into Cutie Honey. This series was created by Go Nagai, and is considered by many to be one of the earliest magical girl anime series (though it's pretty clear that this series was marketed mostly to men with all of its fan-service).

This set features four discs in a single thick case. Cover and disc art are colorful and vibrant. The video and audio are surprisingly great, especially considering the series was made over 40 years ago. Subtitles are easy to read, with very few grammatical/spelling errors. The set contains no bonus features, which is likely due simply to the age of the series.

Overall, this is a great set showcasing an anime classic!

Cutie Honey one of the pioneers of the magical girls genre

I don't really watch a lot of the magical girls genre, mainly due to lack of interest, the only ones I've genuinely liked is stuff like sailor moon, utena, kill la kill, and this. I thought it was very good this technically aimed for adults ,but the fan service is pretty tame compared to the anime they show these days and sort of has a monster of the week thing that thankfully does not get old quickly. The characters are pretty interesting and sometimes strange in a funny way and the leading herione Honey Kisaragi has her own charm that's fun yet turns instantly serious when facing the threat of Panther Claw. I recommend this to anyone who is a fan of Go Nagai or interested in old school anime.

One of the best from the Golden Age of Anime

If you like retro-anime OR Go Nagai OR Cutey Honey in particular, this is a no-question buy.
I LOVE this character and this is where her story begins.
The audio and video quality on the DVDs is pretty good. It looks good running on a Blu ray player. Colors are vibrant and the grain on the film isn't bad at all. The lead actress for Cutie Honey is actually the same voice actress who played Fujiko Mine in the Lupin III series for many years. She's great and appropriately sexy-sounding.
It's a weird show but otherwise loads better than most of the animation on TV at the time... Storylines? Appropriately weird Go Nagai stuff but nothing TOO hardcore. Yes, there is gleeful violence in spots and even decapitation in at least one episode but Disney's done stuff scarier than anything in the original Cutie Honey.
This is probably still the best presentation of the character aside from the mid-1990s OVA series.

Sailor Moon and Austin Powers Drop Acid and Fight Monsters

Remember that show where Sailor Moon meets Austin Powers and they both take a sheet of blotter acid? No, you don't? Well, maybe that show was never made but the tone of the original Cutie Honey definitely captures that same level of brilliant and bizarre.

Eastern Star/Discotek really are the current kings of anime releases aren't they?

This made the 1970's seem cool! ^_^
