A Fun Little Romp

by -

I bought this on a whim during a sale. I was pleasantly surprised at how good of a series it is. It doesn't shoot for a deep story plot, just a straight-forward, action-packed romp! That is not to say that it doesn't have a good story.

If you enjoy a good crime caper with thieves that have hearts of gold and strong principles, you might want to give this one a go.

Pros: Straight-forward story lacking in pretentiousness, strong dub and sub, action and comedy along with good animation.

Cons: Given that it's only a few episodes, there wasn't much time to flesh out the characters. While it doesn't detract from the series, it would have been nice to get some more depth for the characters.

All in all, simple, fun and is good enough to watch more than once!

A good choice for fans of Outlaw Star or Cowboy Bebop

by -

It's a show about space pirates/mercenaries, it's got a crew of mismatched personalities, the music drives a lot of the action scenes, there's some truly evil villains at work here, some incredibly skilled killers, and they're mixed up pretty deeply with the heroes.... Coyote Ragtime Show is pretty much UFOTable's best impression of Cowboy Bebop. While they don't get anywhere near that quality, the show itself is still something they should be proud of.
While the production values sometimes skew too cheap (as the show goes on, they recycle more and more music), it's generally really good looking. The characters are super likeable, and the show's written - and paced - really well too; opting to tell one long narrative over the 12 episodes, with not an episode feeling like filler. There's really not much to dislike here; Coyote Ragtime never hits the highs you want it to, but it is incredibly solid and a super fun watch in its own right.

Nothing Special, Lost Potential

by

The most unfortunate part about CRS is the lack of potential the series exploits. Episode 1 starts off staring a neat female, gluttonous detective and her spunky new partner. Fighting against a team of uniquely-designed villain robots! That sounds awesome right?

The rest of the series follows the blandly-designed 'real' heroes on their quest to steal money from a space bank. Some of the heroes are named Bishop, Katana, and Swamp, but they never do anything cool or special that seems deserving of those names. The ending is as cliche as you expect when you finish episode 2. It feels like another show entirely came and took the show over. It's hard to watch this show and not think about how much better it'd be with Angelica and Chelsea dealing with the 12 SISTERS, rather than the actually Coyotes.
