Complex Age Volume 1 features story and art by Yui Sakuma.
Twenty-six year old Nagisa Kataura has a secret. By all appearances, she’s an average temp-worker, but beneath her business-casual exterior she’s a devoted cosplayer. Transforming into her favorite anime and manga characters is her passion in life, and her hard work and creativity has earned Nagisa respect among her cosplay cohorts. But to the rest of society, her hobby is a silly fantasy, so she has to keep her two worlds separate. However, as demands from both sides of her life begin to increase, she may one day have to make a tough choice – what’s more important to her, cosplay or being “normal.”

An Absolute Must

This is a fantastic series centering around some very strong and relatable existential themes. If you've ever struggled with understanding what it is you want to do with your life, or have ever been uncertain about what truly matters to you, then this work is one you'll remember for a long time. If you're a fan of Inio Asano and his many works, then this is a work you can't pass up. I cannot recommend this series enough, and I highly encourage you to pick it up. You won't be disappointed.
I cringed once or twice

This story offers a relatable premise in that our main character, Nagisa, is painfully aware of the fact she is aging. You can really get the gist of the story from the summary, though I will say the story I got was not the story I was expecting. Our main character is, as described by the summary, a "devoted cosplayer". This results in the character coming off as incredibly self-centered, vain, and detestable throughout this volume. While Nagisa identifies cosplaying as a hobby, she presents it as almost as if it were a profession striking out at those early on who partake on a different level than she does. The first volume really left a bad taste in my mouth. Positive note, there's a ton of educational tidbits about cosplay throughout the volume that is thoroughly explained in detail at the end. Not only that, the characters in the story explain how some of the costume and wig designs are obtained, so that was cool.
