About Children of the Whales Manga Volume 1

Children of the Whales volume 1 features story and art by Abi Umeda.

In this post-apocalyptic fantasy, a sea of sand swallows everything but the past.

In an endless sea of sand drifts the Mud Whale, a floating island city of clay and magic. In its chambers a small community clings to survival, most dying young from the very powers that sustain them.

Chakuro is the Archivist for the Mud Whale, diligently chronicling the lives and deaths of his people. As one of the saimia wielders, whose life spans are cut short by their own magic, he knows his time is limited and is determined to leave a better record than his predecessors. But the steady pace of their isolated existence on the Mud Whale is abruptly shattered when a scouting party discovers a mysterious young girl who seems to know more about their home than they do…

Amazing and Not What You Expect

Children of the Whales is about a boy named Chakuro who lives on a floating island called The Mud Whale, all he and everyone else on the island knows is The Mud Whale. They know nothing about the outside world and all dream about leaving. This story is adorable and happy at first until it takes a twist. (Leaving us on a cliffhanger as well!) The characters are super lovable and the story is beautifully sad. The book is in perfect quality like always, but what's cool about the cover(other than the art) is that you can feel Chakuro's thymia and tears. I really recommend getting this book.

A great story

I really enjoy manga, books, shows, etc. that revolve around a mystery. Children of the whales bring aspects of mystery that keep readers engaged and wanting more. Sometimes things don't make a whole lot of sense and you're here like "what the heck is going on," but slowly each piece of the puzzle starts to come together. The characters and their personalities are structured amazingly well, and the plot thickens with each page you turn.
I chose to read the manga from the start because I originally watched the anime on Netflix (it has been 4 years and no season 2 announcement). In doing so I found out that studio JC Staff skipped a lot of this incredible story (volume 5 and 6 were rushed and a lot was left out). This is definitely a manga to pick up and I recommend it 110%

The art *chef kiss* literally makes me happy by looking at it. The plot and story are so good and it’s so cool that it’s based off a real persons records. AND THIS ISNT A SPOILER BUT THE HIGHER UPS ARE SO FISHY I KNOW THEY HAVE SMTH TO DO WITH WHATS HAPPENING *-*.
