Chihaya is a natural, and she has the skills to take her to the very top. Suddenly, Chihaya has found her goal: to become the best player in Japan! A Card game That's Exciting With Romance and it's a Josei!?
by little girly
I can't speak for the box-set yet, but what I can say is that this series deserves the Grade A box-set along with English dub treatment they are providing it. And that I will most definitely be purchasing it.
The show provides genuine excitement for an old Japanese card game and characters that you can genuinely care for. The show is both a sports and romance anime. Though it heavily leans more towards the sports aspect, the show does have it's romantic moments and tensions. The series demographic is josei as well, so even though the environment is high school, it's more mature, though that doesn't mean it's so serious that it lacks humor and some silliness.
Also, although it's a sports anime, you become genuinely enveloped by the way it is introduced and illustrated throughout, and it does not bore with overly explained details. It's fun, dramatic, with good characters and a love triangle that you should give a try.

I actually got into the Karuta card game because of it
Get it as long as you can - it's beautiful and worth to get!
Besides this anime being outstanding!
This premium box edition is gorgeous. There are various well printed cards, the dvd/bluray discs and the box are eye pleasing. The place holder is pretty and in the size of two dvd/bluray envelopes, which means this beautiful box can also fit the second season or the special dvd which includes the OVA or such. Anyway, the box is well made and totally worth it.
Box for Season 1 could (almost) hold Season 2 Box

Season 1 (S1) box has a beautiful textured-paper cover, filled with:
・2x DVD-sized S1 disc cases (bluray+dvd).
・1x 'Extras' cardboard holder box (DVD-sized); crammed full.
・1x empty spacer box (size of two S1 disc cases).
Cases - Blu-ray (VIVA eco-box) & DVD are both clear w/:
・Pleasing seasonal landscape imagery showing through when opened.
・Swinging center disc mount(s); can't "safely" fit any Extras..
The (also pretty!) S1 spacer is exactly 2 DVD cases wide, thus appears to accommodate Season 2 (S2) discs but NOT the 'Extras' holder box seen in the S2 Premium product images (it's nice just display it).
No prob. Put both Blurays in the S1 box, stow DVDs in the S2 cardboard sleeve(box). The S2 Extra book (not it's box) may still fit in the S1 box, but keychain likely has to stay in the S2 Extras box (or hang/put-to-good-use!). The "Season 2" branding on S2 sleeve is irrelevant if not on your shelf. 3rd-party quotes "S1 box to fit S2 box", but w/o a direct PR source.

Yes chihayafuru is a fantastic series and yes you should definitely get at least this 1st season box. GORGEOUS box art. It comes packed with all sorts of goodies that made it well worth the price tag. I would say this is one of the better box sets I've purchased. Really enjoyed the art book and the karuta glossary got me into trying out karuta for myself.
