Overall, Great Purchase!

by -

Just got mine in the mail yesterday, and honestly, it's great! The pin-up cards are really nice, as is the special artwork on both the box and Blu Ray case. Not a huge fan of the dub for this one, but it comes with the original Japanese, so that's good. Concerning the anime itself, especially for those who may be thinking of purchasing this before seeing it for the first time, it's really good. Story wise, it's kind of slow for the first couple episodes, coming across as going nowhere except random adventures (which are still overall enjoyable). The story really picks up in the latter half of the anime, the majority of which will be on Vol. 2. Regardless, this anime is worth getting and watching. It's very well done and very enjoyable!

Stream before you buy!

Charlotte, is the latest straight to anime release for Key/Visual Arts behind Angel Beats. This series does have it's flaws and to be honest Aniplex Pricing of this title really makes it harder to swallow.
Let's talk about the physical product to start. Comes in a "Flimsy/Cheap" slipcover.. the artwork on the cover is great as a Fan of Na-Ga I really liked it. However the construction of the box leaves much to be desired. I really think that for the prices people pay for these releases Aniplex could at least not be stingy about it. The Art/Character cards are also a bonus and are nice to look at.. however I would not consider these a premium item in the slightest.
Story wise this series starts off very slow.. it really took me 3 or 4 episodes before I committed to watching which is 3 or 4 too long.. As mentioned in another review the series really picks up in the 2nd part.
I'd recommend streaming and if you like it.. Rightstuf for the best price!

the best show

I love it

A different kind of Key

Charlotte is written by Jun Maeda, the same man who graced us with CLANNAD, AIR, Little Busters! and Angel Beats! But Charlotte isn't the same kind of feels fest as the other titles. It starts rather episodic like Key usually is until episode 6 happens and s**t hits the fan, bringing things into a fuller narrative. The MC is also unlike any other Key MCs, which is interesting. Animation and music are also top notch, as per P.A. Works and Maeda/Avant-Garde Eyes. Both voice tracks are also solid.

I would have given this first half a full 5 stars, but I find the price to be a little too steep. It comes in a sturdy laminated cardboard (note: NOT chipboard) case, with a clear BD case and some art cards. It also comes with the Beginning of a "New Destiny" special, which is really cool. It's a decent release, but $75 is a bit much, so I would only go for it if you're a big fan of Key. Though if you are, the release is definitely worth it.

A start of something special

Charlotte is a really interesting Key anime from the start. I'd like to point out all the good things about it but that would be spoiling it in the long run. If you like Key and are happy with a change of pace from a potential harem group to just an easy going nature, then by all means, check this out.

OK show, I recommend try before you buy

I can't stress enough, stream this before blind buying. Make sure you will enjoy it, as the price is high and the show seems to be a bit polarizing as to whether you enjoy it or not.

For me, I think it's OK, but given the Aniplex treatment, it costs maybe more than it's actually worth.

That's not to say the quality is bad. On the contrary, in typical Aniplex fashion, this looks and sounds fantastic. The problem is the show is generally "meh" for me in a lot of places, and not worth the price. For others I know, they fell for it hard, so there is a market. It may just not be meant for me.

Good show

If you watched this anime and loved it like I did then I'd recommed this buy if you can afford it, the box it comes in though not chipboard is still high quality as are the art cards it comes with. The show really starts to pick up in the second half but I still really enjoyed the first.

Worth it, if your a fan of the series

A great series I highly enjoyed. Had to purchase it once I heard it was going out of print. It’s a pricy but luckily right stuf gives us that discount so I’m pretty fortunate for that. The Blu-ray case itself is absolutely amazing, it looks great. Thanks right stuf!
