About Cat Girl Nuku Nuku Blu-ray

All Purpose Cultural Cat Girl Nuku Nuku the Complete Collection contains television episodes 1-12 of the anime directed by Yoshitaka Fujimoto, the OVA, and the DASH! OVA in standard definition on one blu-ray disc.

Meow! To stop president “Hell” Mishima of Mishima Industry from conquering the world home appliance market, scientist Kyusaku Natsume creates the All-Purpose Cat-Girl androbot Nuku Nuku. Sweet as a kitten and strong as a tiger, teenaged Nuku Nuku has no problem dispatching Mishima’s never-ending stream of appliance robots. Being human, however, is a different story!

Kyusaku’s son, schoolboy Ryunosuke Natsume, guides Nuku Nuku as best he can. But he has his own problems when schoolgirl Noriko Ishiyama decides she has to marry him! Then there’s Akiko Natsume, Ryunosuke’s mother: By day, she’s a mild-mannered Mishima executive, but by night she’s the company president’s ruthless right hand, nicknamed “Bloody Akiko!” For a while, the students at Maneki High School are not sure about Nuku Nuku, but that all changes when she saves class head officer Futaba Kaibara from a marauding washing machine! Curiosity won’t kill this cat!

Great deal on a classic series...

by -

The 1990s were literally the decade of Megumi Hayashibara.
Nuku Nuku is a different role for the feisty VA who is generally known for playing tomboys and tough women. Nuku is feminine, a bit ditzy, and hung over from the last time she had catnip!
Nuku2 isn't about character growth so much as it is about mayhem and the craziness that follows a mad scientist and son who are just trying to have a regular life apart from the distant workaholic mother intent on world domination -- for some reason! And that's the basic plotline of the series.
If you have the old ADV DVDs, the BD is a questionable upgrade. I did not see improvement in video quality. If you're interested in the OVAs (the original series) at least, this is an economical buy to get ALL of Nuku2 on 1 disc (instead of 7 DVDs) and STILL get the best series of the franchise. 1 new bonus is an alternate dub of the original OVA series.

The OAV is funny, then TV is alright, then goes downhill with DASH!

The 6-part OAV is very funny and the only part of the franchise I own via old Bandai. 4-stars.

The TV series while also funny, with new characters added via the high school comedy banter, somehow fell short of expectation after viewing the original OAV series. I rented this series back in the day, and that was it for me. 3-stars.

Dash is horrible! Clearly made to milk the series one last time for whatever it was worth. Dash is so bad, it copies the magical girl sequence from another terrible anime, "Moldiver." 1-star.

Eastern Star selling older anime series in SD-BD format is questionable. Basically, you're buying such shows still in 'Standard Definition" or still in 480p basic DVD format. Entire series is placed on a single Blu-ray disc to take advantage of superior storage capacity instead of superior HD 1080p video quality. I'd ask Eastern Star to offer a regular DVD set at half the price if the video quality remains the same 480p format.

Good Series-but questionable purchase.

First off I've always liked Nuku Nuku, all 3 series are quite entertaining. The 1st series (ovas) are cute, Nuku Nuku TV is more of the same, Nuku Nuku Dash takes a different direction in that the characters are re-imagined. My problem with this release is this standard definition on bluray thing. As I already have all of it on the original ADV dvds why would I want to rebuy it? If you don't have the dvds or if they are prohibitively expensive then get this release but otherwise don't bother.
