More BGC Goodness

by

The follow up to the very well done Bubble Gum Crisis, This combined with the AD Police files flesh out the BGC Story line even more.

These 3 episodes take place after the Events of the original BGC series.. The music is still there in all its 90's glory.. and the same fast paced mecha and Cyberpunk action is still there..

BGC is not complete with out watching Crash.. if you liked BGC then you will like this one.

Along with the original Series, it's still better than the 2040 Anime Series

by

Check out my Bubblegum Crisis review [same name, but in caps]

The description on each episode says it all. Can't really say you're done with Bubblegum Crisis unless you watch the Bubblegum Crash OVA. Not much to say except that it still have some great moments for 3 episodes.

Anyways, need to talk about the DVD.

The Play All feature that was missing on the original DVDs is added, so that's a good thing. The only negative is watching Ep. 3 in Japanese with English Subs because the subs are out of sync. Not sure if it's just my copy, but it was very noticeable since they start talking, subs pop up like 2 seconds later and ends like a second quicker. If that bugs you, can watch it with English Dubs. Don't really lose much unless you like Japanese Dubs more than English Dubs.

If you're planning to get the original DVD series, definitely get this OVA and also the A.D. Police OVA to complete the series.

Essential as a capper to the series, but just feels like more of the same

by -

Bubblegum Crash just feels like 3 more episodes for the classic series. But as a capper for that its only decent anyway.

It suffers from the same issues as the main series – poor dub, simplistic storytelling, failure to build up meaningful arcs, etc. It also shares the strengths - looks fantastic, the songs are amazing, some voices consistently rise above the endearingly amateur nature of Animego's dub (Nene, for instance). As 3 more episodes, they're pretty interesting “Boomer of the Week” stories. Meltdown does get to the “Boomer Revolution” and pits Sylia against a sort of “Final Boss” - it just feels disposable; challenges appear quickly and are dealt with even faster. It's not evolved over the series in any way, and just isn't a strong conclusion

Its weird that these aren't on the boxset. It's nice to have more breezy adventures with the classic Knight Sabers, but it's a missed opportunity when it comes to closing out the original Bubblegum Crisis.
