About Blade of the Immortal Manga Omnibus Volume 1

Blade of the Immortal Omnibus Volume 1 collects Manga Volumes 1-3 and features story and art by Hiroaki Samura.

A cursed, seemingly immortal warrior aids a young girl in her quest for revenge. Samura’s massive manga series spawned an anime run, a spinoff novel, an art book, and a live-action film! Intense and audacious, Blade takes period samurai action and deftly combines it with a modernist street idiom to create a style and mood like no other work of graphic fiction!

Blade of the Immortal Omnibus 1

Bought this on a whim. The pages are of good quality, and so far I haven't found any errors. The spine is very flexible, but not so much that it leaves any tears, unless you really force it. It's a fun and interesting read so far, and looking forward to collecting the next nine that come out.

Is a manga about revenge. It also has political intrigue, moral quandaries, drama and if that doesn't interest you than the many great fight scenes will.
The omnibus comes in great quality and the spine is flexible.

Manga Requirement

by -

With a pretty solid anime adaptation, and a Takashi Miike film representation, this should be required reading in the manga culture. The character development is enthralling and the style is stunning.

Fantastic Manga For All Levels

by -

By all levels, I mean all levels of otaku, not age. This is strictly a 17+ franchise.

The manga is an excellent story of revenge, coupled with concepts of immortality, humanity, and forgiveness. If you want something that has some dry wit, excellent illustration, like-able characters, and masterful weapon design, pick this up.

Don't forget to watch the anime and the feature film by Takashi Miike.

Good for manga, not for extras

by -

First I have not read the manga yet and my comments are only reviewing the omnibus and what's included.

The first striking thing that -while it might seem minor- defiantly feels off. You read flip pages left to right as opposed to the normal right to left. The edition also doesn't add really any supplementary material to the manga (e.g extra art and interviews). I did find a quick interview and some black and white pictures (about four) around a quarter of the way in but not much.

What I like about omnibuses is aesthetic over convenience, and like to buy omnibuses for the extra goodies.

Classic Samurai Action

I've had no experience with the series, but if you want to get into it, I can't think of any better place to start. Dark Horse packs the first 3 volumes of the manga in one big package, complete with additional content like illustrations by other artists. I was also quite impressed with the quality of the cover and how the binding holds it all together so neatly. BOTI features some of the best panel compositions you'll see in any manga so fans of samurai stories will not want to pass up on this.
