WHAT IF LOVE WAS ACTUALLY A BATTLEFIELD?

FEATURING AN ALL-NEW ENGLISH DUB!

If you took the pain from the ones you loved and never gave them yours in return, would you consider that fair? Or would it be selfish? Mato Kuroi meets Yomi Takanashi on her first day of school, and wants nothing more than to be her friend. But Yomi’s life is not so simple as hers. For every blunt friendly overture Mato makes, she overlooks the more subtle emotions, and soon enough what starts with a shared love for a fairy tale turns into something much darker. All the while, Mato’s dreams show her a girl embroiled in constant battle with other girls who look suspiciously like her friends. But could they be more than just dreams?

Finally!

by -

First, I'm ecstatic that this is finally available in the US! I loved Black Rock Shooter when I stumbled across it almost a decade ago, and I'm absolutely thrilled to have a copy to watch whenever I'd like!

I did purchase this while it was a special, and it was honestly worth it. The behind the scenes bonus was actually a bit longer than I expected, which is a nice inside look at how they put some scenes together. I prefer the sub on this one, but I was curious about the dub, which is actually pretty decent.

The cover is reversible!! It's a small touch, but it was a pleasant surprise when taking the slip-cover off to find different art. Which, I believe is the original poster art released in Japan. I do wish there was a small slip or episode guide in the case, but I'll live without one.

Overall, if you're a fan, get it. If you're curious about it, snatch a copy if you're comfortable with the price!

The Human World, then the World of Black Rock Shooter

by -

Not Bad considering the anime was created on an illustration by Huke, and the song of the same name by the band 'Supercell'.

Considered an original Sci-Fi anime with gorgeous animation, an equally catchy soundtrack, and a narrative that brings new meaning to 'Worlds that Collide' theme, I didn't hesitate to upgrade to this BD version from my old DVD set when released by Discotek.

The timing couldn't have been better, as it was just announced that a sequel, "Black Rock Shooter: Dawn's Fall" will begin production next year, and fans will have another series to look forward to here.

Great emotional action rollercoaster

by -

If you like Slice of life, or action, this anime is for you!
I love this show, a dramatic 8 episode series about a schoolgirl who tries to help her friends, and never thinks of her own problems. On the flip side, this is shown in another universe through epic battles, made with high-quality CGI animation that will blow you away.
Includes Japanese audio, or English dub, English subtitles (full, or just signs and text). 8 episodes, about 3 hours. Show has mild violence, with discolored blood (usually blue or black), and has almost no sexual content ("unintentional fanservice").
I would recommend this great show for teens 14 and up.

Great Cosplay Sells Great Anime!

by -

I became aware of this show several years ago thanks to some awesome cosplay I'd seen of several characters, and was keen to watch it, but could never find it: Thank You, Discotek for making this available! This is a magical girl show with a darker tone, but has more of an action/drama take. The character designs and art direction may remind you of 'Kill la Kill' or 'Gurren Lagaan', so if that aesthetic appeals to you, you'll enjoy this. While it's tempting to compare/contrast 'Black Rock Shooter' to 'Madoka Magica', each has their own uniqueness and should not be considered derivative of one another (B.R.S. is not, to my thinking, a 'de-construction' of the magical girl genre, just a more mature take). I hope people will take a look at this excellent short series; at 8 epis, it's a quick and very satisfying watch. Worth your time and your money.
