About Beastars Manga Volume 1

Beastars Manga Volume 1 features story and art by Paru Itagaki.

At a high school where the students are literally divided into predators and prey, it’s personal relationships that maintain the fragile peace. Who among them is a Beastar—an academic and social role model destined to become a leader in a society naturally rife with mistrust?

Last night at Cherryton Academy, an herbivore student was killed and eaten. Among the members of the drama club, the herbivores’ suspicions naturally turn to their carnivore classmates… The prime suspect? Legoshi, a large wolf. But he wouldn’t hurt a fly—or would he? And will dwarf rabbit Haru bring out the beast in him? Or are his feelings for her…something else?

I read the manga before the anime, I love both! But I love Legoshi he’s such a pure soul. The story moves at a the perfect pace doesn’t move to fast or slow but it does get kinda dark so be ready!

Book came on time! Packaging of the box was perfect and books came in good condition thank you!

Different from what I've ever read

This is a very unique manga with characters we're not used to, since they're animals. I honestly had no idea what to expect going into this series, but definitely don't judge it until you read it! It deals with a lot of heavy topics about society, but is really good! Don't feel drawn away to this simply because the characters are animals; It's actually a great story with some really human themes!

Quite Unique

Firstly, you have the high end Viz Media Signature series book in all its oversized glory. Then you have the sketchy art that sometimes just barely conveys what is happening in the most straightforward of terms. Then there's the dialogue, that's at once original and at times meandering on seemingly plotless soliloquy. Is the high quality Signature series lost on such a book? That's for you to decide... What I know is a regular low quality paper/size manga would find it difficult to convey the action on each page with such an art style.
The story is excellent in all it's Agatha Christie, mystery beats and trademarks: Consistently reeling you into what only seems obvious but will be washed away with revelations later. It's a page turner, and the characters and their relations are inviting and intriguing. The last two chapters seem to come to a plodding anti climatic end, after the fantastic tension and build of the first three chapters. B+ Overall (A- for 1st 3 chapters).

If you are questioning giving this a read definitely do. This series deals with racism sexism and other social injustice born of prejudice in such a clever way it is an absolute treat. If the subtext isn’t your thing then the surface level story is interesting as well along with well thought out art this manga is a five star.

A mystery murder? A school romance? An acting drama? Beastars is one of a kind!

Arrived in Perfect Condition as usual. The cover is amazing, showing us immediately who the MC is, and I love the art style from Itagaki sensei. I love how all the covers have all the letters of the title in the back. Viz Signature bigger editions are also amazing. Regarding the story, anyone that had seen Disney's Zootopia before will immediately compare this to it, and they're not wrong, but don't mistake it for a kid's manga, there are some similarities, but that's where it ends, because Beastars has some dark themes. There's murder, depression, lust, intraracial relationships, etc. The contrast between Legoshi's and Louis' characters is very nice, and how Haru is introduced makes you forget all about any Zootopia comparisons immediately. Great 1st Vol, you'll want to jump to Vol 2 immediately.
