He does seem to have a special connection with animals though, which intrigues overzealous animal lover Yuiko Kubozuka. Or will Leo's ferocious side eventually devour her?

Awesome Short Manga

by -

This first volume includes the first four chapters of Beast Master as well as a bonus short story titled "Fly". It's a cute story about a high school girl Yuiko who loves animals but whom animals tend to dislike due to her overzealousness. Enter Leo who is a frightening new student who lived overseas in the wild with his guardian whom animals love and other students shy away from because of his tough looks. The story revolves around their budding friendship which later turns into romance as they get to know each other.

This graphic novel is quick paced and is only two volumes long for those who want to read the who story. I love all of Kyousuke Motomi's work and was excited to see that some of her manga was available in English.

Good Read !

Cute and funny! I loved the main lead, Yuiko. She is kind and brave. She loves animals. And Leo, he is really sweet guy and funny, even though he has dangerous looking eyes as he has grown up in nature, like Mouqli. He has some animal instincts too. No wonder, Yuiko was interested in him.
the whole story was simple and heartwarming. The mutual kindness and closeness between Yuiko and Leo felt so geniue and cute.

Meh, not as good as reviews led me to expect

by

It's not bad, but the premise, that Leo is a sweet and almost childlike guy who's prone to violence whenever he sees blood (a defense mechanism from the time he lived on a deserted island), who can only easily be stopped by Yuiko, concerned me a little, especially Yuiko's first attempt to calm him down resulted in her getting bit to the point of bleeding. The story was over-the-top in ways that didn't really work for me, and the artwork looked like a million other shoujo series and wasn't able to boost the series' appeal.

Since it's such a short series, I'm tempted to read the next volume, but if it were longer than two volumes I definitely wouldn't be continuing on.

The volume ends with a short story that, while not as bad as the author makes it out to be, is still pretty mediocre and certainly dated feeling.
