Bakemonogatari a must see show.

by -

Bakemonogatari is an amazing show, that is honestly worth the price point. The story is well written and witty. The art is beautiful and the typography that appears adds a distinct style to the show that I haven't seen done elsewhere. This is a show that I would suggest to almost any anime fan as there is something in this show for everyone.

First Review: Bakemonogatari

by -

- Sturdy, chipboard box.
- Nice looking cover art.
- Nice little character design booklet.

- Unchangeable subtitle color/yellow subs.

In my opinion, that's about it. Some may choose to complain about the sets $150 price point when it only comes with a booklet and the show itself, and with yellow subtitles that aren't the best at times. Whilst it's true that it's a little high, it's still doable. Most anime is expensive in general, and Aniplex USA has gotten better with both their pricing and subtitles -- at least in terms of swapping yellow subs with white subs – with future sets, mostly mitigating the only real complaints that I and most others would have with it. Overall, if you can afford it, it's a set well worth buying if you love the show and want to collect it. Not to mention that the series are rather colorful with their boxes, so they look great on a shelf; Bakemonogatari being no exception to that.

Side Note: Wish the CC was bigger. Had to cut my prelude.

Worth the buy, and not even all THAT expensive... in contrast.

This is one of my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE series, the art direction and writing are SUPERB! ALL of the characters are an absolute JOY. But all anyone wants to talk about is "boo hoo, it's not free!"

Well, unfortunately, for ye entitled masses, this is exactly in line with anime pricing over the last 20ish years (averaging $10/episode). Only lately did companies like Funimation and Sentai begin offering anime at a lower price, and in almost ALL of those instances, you're getting what you pay for, K-mart quality at K-Mart prices. Aniplex offers both better video and audio encoding than every other company, or did none of you sheeple ever bother to question how or why Funimation fits an entire 13 episode series of both dub and sub on to a single disc, sometimes 2, when aniplex tends to only put 3 or 4 episodes on each?

Really satisfied

by -

Since the Monogatari Series is my favourite anime series of all time this was a must-buy.
Even tho this one's pretty expensive compared to the rest of the series I think, especially as a big fan it's completely worth it.

Not only is the show as such just great, but also the blu-rays quality (compared to the streaming quality this one's S tier).
Also, the booklet is a beautiful little extra (even tho the casual customer might just put it aside after the first look).

While I might be a bit biased because I just love this show, I'd rate this product 5/5, without a doubt.

As someone who just started this series, it's definitely worth checking out.

by -

I purchased this along with a majority of the other Monogatari series in 3 separate orders, and I was beyond excited to get them. Each package was put together with great care (as has been the case with all my other orders) and everything was in excellent condition.

As far as the anime, I'm 10 episodes in and totally hooked. It's for sure a character driven show, with tons and tons of dialogue. But it helps greatly that the characters are so interesting and the visuals are fantastic. As someone new to the series, consider me a fan!

Worth the buy!

by -

While the price is a bit hefty, the purchase is totally worth it in my opinion. Yes, it lacks the Postcards set but it comes with character commentary to which after and while watching I could not stop from laughing. I went back to Hulu and Crunchyroll to compare the quality of the video and I fell head over heels with how much of a change there is on the Blu-Ray. I definitely recommend as a must purchase to anyone who love the series and can afford it. You won't regret it!!

Love the Monogatari Series

by -

This is the first season that starts the monogatari anime series and let me tell you that it is worth to have if you are a true hard core fan. The price is a bit high and it took me a while to save up to buy it, but i have no regrets what so ever. This is one of my favorite series ever and i'm glad to add it to my collection. The only down side is that i wish it had more special content included, especially for the price. Over all i Love it.

My Favorite of the Monogatari Series

by -

About a year and a half ago I watched Bakemonogatari on a whim. I literally fell in love with it on the first episode. Senjougahara quickly became one of my all time favorite characters and the show was so entertaining and interesting I just kept watching and wanting to learn more. Thanks to Bake I went and watched all the other arcs. I even started reading the books from vertical (great books, so much extra details and scenes not in the shows).

The show is so good, although now that I am a faster reader I like it a bit more since there is a lot of dialog in the show (first time I watched it had to pause and rewind a lot to catch some of the subtitles lol). When I received it in the mail I watched it all and fell in love again.

If you are a Monogatari fan this is easily a must if you have the money.

The Bakemono Bank Break

by -

About a decade late to review this but never had my hands on it before.

Any fan of the Monogatari Series yearns for the day they can acquire all the blu-ray sets, regardless of how pricey they may seem.

For the first edition starting out in Bake, the box set is well worth the price. While there may not be much in terms of physical contents, the amount of digital content on the discs is outstanding for any ecstatic fan.

To those beginning their collection, keep in mind that collecting the blu-ray sets are PRICEY for Monogatari (and Aniplex in general). And if you plan on buying for the (amazing and hilarious) character commentaries, keep in mind this is the ONLY blu-ray with them. Apparently the original Japan-sold copies contain them all in every edition since Bake, but none of the rest have them translated.

An absolute MUST HAVE for your collections! To those who have never seen it, this is a great way to get into the well renowned masterpiece if you're willing drop the $$$.

Solid story arcs regarding the supernatural

by -

This is my second purchase of the Monogatari anime series and I am definitely hooked after viewing this 15 episode set. The series consists of five story arcs which are presented as a ghost/mystery series where the main protagonist (whom is still recovering from a vampire attack) helps five girls who have been possessed by apparitions.

Loved the impertinent yet witty dialog in this series, and the way Studio SHAFT shifts the animation from bright/colorful locations, to dark/isolated scenes such as Meme's abandoned building. It's quite unique, and highlights from the normal, to the errie scenes of the anime quite well.

Recommended to those who like the occult involving mystery and romance.

Premium price for a premium release

by -

Overall, very satisfied with this box set.

While the cost of the product may not correlate well with quantity (i.e., runtime), it certainly does with quality. The chipboard box that houses the set's three cases is firm and sturdy. It feels satisfying to hold and is equally as satisfying to admire visually. The key visuals that are used for the individual cases and the discs they contain are just as nice, with vibrant, immaculately crafted art that is sure to please the eye.The booklet included in the set is a fun little extra to comb through as well.

The actual media encoded on the discs is pristine, capturing every little detail of the animation about as well as you could ask for. The encode is already great quality when compared to other Blu-rays, and when you compare it to the original TV release of this series, the two aren't even on the same plane of existence.

If you are considering picking up this set, I think that you will ultimately be satisfied with the purchase.

Price may be high, but you get quality.

by -

While this may seem overpriced on its face, it actually is incredibly worth it. The chipboard cover is a lot sturdier than I first expected, but that isn't what sells it. It's the subtitles. Now, the only way to stream the entirety of of it is through Funimation and y'know, that's alright. It looks good, and it streams fine, but what if you want more? This set has you. It has Crunchyroll quality subtitles with colors and positions other than the bottom of the screen. A normality on streaming, but a rarity on blu rays. Don't even get me started on the Character Commentaries though. The fact that they're translated alone gives it an A+.

tl;dr: Great quality at a high price. Wouldn't recommend to people unsure of the series, would recommend if already into the series.
