About BLAME! Manga Volume 1

BLAME! volume 1 features story and art by Tsutomu Nihei.

In a future version of Earth, there is a city grown so chaotically massive that its inhabitants no longer recall what “land” is. Within this megastructure the silent, stoic Kyrii is on a mission to find the Net Terminal Gene—a genetic mutation that once allowed humans to access the cybernetic NetSphere. Armed with a powerful Graviton Beam Emitter, Kyrii fends off waves of attacks from fellow humans, cyborgs and silicon-based lifeforms. Along the way, he encounters a highly-skilled scientist whose body has deteriorated from a lengthy imprisonment who promises to help Kyrii find the Net Terminal Gene, once she settles a score for herself…

A must have

Paper quality and size are the first bits of awesomeness, add to that the small edits by the artist and in translation make this re-release of this genre defining manga a must have! For old and new fans.

A Dark Mysterious Journey Up the Corridors

by -

I was never able to read BLAME! back when Tokyopop first released them, but I'm so glad that held off either way. Vertical's publication of it is no less than perfection. The book stands at 10 inches and the cover is embossed with a glossy finish.

The story of BLAME! is driven by its atmosphere, with dark panels and heavy ink detailing the dense designs of the architecture and the characters. The dialogue is sparse and straight to the point and the actions scenes are nothing short of badass. If you liked Biomega, this should be right up your alley!

Amazing quality and size!

by -

I just received the whole set today and I couldn't be happier. The quality is top notch and the books are BIG. This is great because one of the best features of this manga is the amazing artwork. With this edition you get the best of both worlds, high quality and large. Very highly recommend!

A mind-boggling journey.

by -

Tsutomu Nihei is a master-hand at artistic expression, inventive worldbuilding, and letting the story express itself through the art. Not much is said in the entirety of the story, as it isn't needed. The sparse dialog punctuates the almost entirely visual storytelling and adds to the compelling narrative without giving any unnecessary exposition.
If I could only have read 1 manga series in my lifetime, this is certainly one of the top contenders.

Great Story, decent quality

Blame! is a very visually drive story. There isn’t much dialogue, but Nihei’s captivating art and the atmosphere of Blame! speaks for itself. I personally think Blame! is an essential read.

Quality wise, I think it’s not that impressive. The size is huge, around the same size as the dark horse deluxe editions and kodansha’s battle angel alita deluxes. My biggest complaint is that the book seems to peel on the spine even if you don’t touch the book or try to meticulously read it.

One of, if not my fav manga all time

BLAME! is one of, if not my favorite manga of all time. I can't give enough praise to this manga and to Nihei. It is a masterpiece in both art and story.
