About Aura DVD

In Aura: Koga Maryuin's Last War, Ichiro Sato used to spend his life dreaming, pretending to be a great fantasy hero. Pretend heroics, however, aren't much protection from bullies and social ridicule. Now determined to follow a different path and fit in, Ichiro thought he'd managed to give up his old fantasies. Until he encountered Ryouko Satou, who's even more deeply immersed in her own imaginary world than Ichiro was-and is bullied just as cruelly for it. If he stands up for Ryouko, Ichiro could destroy the new life he's trying to build.

But at the same time, the intensity of her fantasies and predicament reminds him all too vividly of the person he once was. In the end, it may just be that the only one who can really rescue this damsel in distress is the dream hero that Ichiro thought he had buried forever in Aura.

Understanding Imagination

by -

A wonderful little film about imagination, cosplay and the yearning to live in a world away from bullies and hurt. The dub was well done and the animation is beautiful. I gave it a 4 star instead of 5 because I feel like the start was a little slow going and the film overall wasn't long enough. Other than that, Ichiro and Ryouko are great characters I can relate to, as can anyone who loves fantasy and imagination. I highly recommend and the film is definitely worth the 90 minute run time.

A hidden gem of a movie (light spoilers)

I was blasted away on how good this movie was. I knew nothing about it and got it when it was on sale. I’m glad I picked this one up. The movie started off a bit slow for me and I wasn’t too sure where it was heading, but as it went on, it just got better and better. By the end of it, I loved it. The movie deals with bullying and not fitting in cause you live in your own world (or being an otaku in a sense). It gets a bit dark with the bullying. This movie can be relatable to a lot of people, me included. My experiences were a little different and I had my own way of dealing with this, but I understand how it feels being not “normal.” This movie does get a little over the top near the end, but it doesn’t take away from the overall message. And you have to watch it past the credits, cause the post credits scene just adds even more to an already great film. In all, I can’t recommend this film enough.

A relatable movie for anyone who's ever felt different

by -

This movie was even better than I expected. It deals with some dark issues yet handles the content perfectly. It made me laugh, feel overwhelming concern for the main characters, and had me loathing one person in particular. If you see this movie, you'll know who I mean. I watched the movie in Japanese and English and am pleased with both the subtitled and dubbed versions. Highly recommend this one.
