Great series, lacking in special features for subbed fans.

by -

As a series, Attack on Titan is practically flawless imo. If we're just basing my review off of the actual show itself, then it deserves a 5 star rating hands down, and the series is well worth the purchase for that alone.

What makes me bring the score down for the box set though is the significant lack of special features for those of us that like to watch it subbed.

If you were hoping for more though after having streamed it like myself, you may want to think twice on purchasing this if you watched it subbed. My recommendation for those ranges anywhere from "maybe" (if you like commentaries from the English cast) to "probably not" (if you don't care about the commentaries) since the commentaries do take up the bulk of extra content here.

Since there isn't much aside from that, "Making of," could have just been uploaded to youtube and put AoT chibi up for streaming as its own side-series.

Mankind's last defense...

Season 1 introduces you to a world overrun with giants known as Titans and humanity's fight to survive. After witnessing his mother get eaten by a Titan, Eren Jager joins the fight, vowing to destroy every last Titan. Along the way, he gathers allies and gets mixed up in plots and battles that draw out unexpected powers. Can't wait for Season 2's release and next year's Season 3.

A top ten seinen anime show

Really good story regarding the growth and camaraderie of the 218 recruits from 'Basic', to 'Advanced' training, and final selection into either the Police Regiment, Garrison regiment, or the Scout Regiment.

Season one spends just the right amount of focus on numerous interesting character/recruits to keep you hooked on what happens to them in subsequent episodes. What really stands out is the Omni-Directional Mobility Gear the soldiers use to combat the Titans, which showcases some stunning action sequences as the ODM Gear allows the user to fire cables, and employs gas canisters to propel the soldier into the air. In addition, the musical score is also outstanding in season one, as the music actually heightens the intensity of the heart-pounding combat scenes. Highly recommended for the ODM action sequences, great musical score, and unexpected plot twists!
