An interesting, if slightly flawed prequel to Attack on Titan!
by Anime-Aint-Kid Stuf
First I will get out of the way that I did read the original 34 volume manga series of Attack on Titan, (which this novel prequel is based on,) as well as the manga version of this very novel of the same name. The story itself was quite engaging, and felt more like an adventure game or RPG in style. It's not perfect, and certainly doesn't get as intricate as AoT, but it was compelling in it's own unique way!
I will admit that I prefer the manga version for a number of reasons. The translation of this novel version seems to have some glaring flaws, particularly with the near total absence of identifiers, giving little clue who is speaking. It also often resorts to awkward generic descriptors and adverbs, (which "tells" rather than "shows.")
That said, it still kept my interest to the end. 😀
