Has the Potential to be a Good Survival Story
by Ashton -
Overall, Astra has a good group dynamic. The 9 kids are all fairly archetypical, but I do not think they're bad characters (most of them at least). Kanata is very much a shonen protagonist—brash, awkward, and a natural propensity to charge in to danger without hesitation. He can be annoying at times, but his bravery saves the group from crisis more than once.
I think the art is well-drawn and consistent. Shinohara’s planetary landscapes and flora/fauna cells are gorgeous. The “crust suits” are just plain awesome.
A lack of strong, interesting dialogue is this manga's biggest issue. Casual dialogue between the kids tends to be dull and the comedic moments often miss the mark. However, Shinohara’s writing shines when conveying the seriousness of a situation. The despair the kids feel when they become stranded is gripping and almost palpable. I hope the "human vs. nature" element will get explored further.
I would give Astra a 78/100 and would recommend it if these elements interest you.
Among Us the Manga?

Astra: Lost in Space is a five part manga series written by Kenta Shinohara. Volume 1 introduces the readers to Aries Springs, Kanata Hoshijima, Quittierie Raffaeli, Luca Esposito, Ulgar Zweig, Zack Walker, and Charce Lacroix. These seven characters are going on a trip in our favorite rocketship towards the nearby planet of McPa for a school trip whenever they encounter a sphere of light which transports them thousands of light-years away from home. It's up to the group to work together to get back home with the limited resources they have at their disposal while working to figure out the traitor(s) in their group. My main complaint with the story and characters is that everyone feels like they were made to fit a certain trope, with Kanta being the main leader of the group, Ulgar being the tense realistic, Zack being the more smarter calm headed person of the group,
Quittierie being the older sister, etc.
