'Another' Amazes with Archetypal Writing in a Field of Average Prose

by

Another, my first foray into the works of Ayatsuji Yukito, is a superb thriller; a tense page-turner; a horrifying mystery. I had a hard time setting it down. While it is more of a psychological thriller, there is certainly no paucity of gore.

In true J-Horror fashion, there is a major twist at the end. Once this highly-coveted information is revealed, the main character reviews everything that has happened and the situational evidence lines up beautifully. I just love it when a story comes together so perfectly, and Ayatsuji definitely delivers.

Quite better than the Manga/Anime

by

I admit, I became hooked onto this story through the manga and then to the anime, to learn that this book could be sold in the US. Buying this book was a great choice for me. Even though I already knew the twists and turns in this book before I read it; I became engrossed with the author's style and the overall atmosphere of the book. Too bad other books by the author is not present throughout this site because this book made her my favorite author for over year. I reread this book every few months to experience the same "thrills" as the first time. I suggest this book to the fans of the adaptations, lovers of horror, and lovers of suspense. 10/10!

BEST DISCOVERY OF MINE

by -

I'm not much of a horror fan, but Another was one of the very few exeptions. Suspense, thrills, and an engulfing atmosphere. It was definitely a page turner, forcing you to feast on the beautiful work filled with this fascinating style of writing and interest. I loved the anime, so decided to buy this; one of the greatest decisions of my life. So, what are you waiting for? Buy it now!

**(This sounds fake and advertised, but really, trust me on this one, do yourself a favor and read this masterpiece! Also, the cover is one of the greatest too!)

Favorite Book This Year

by -

Going into this book, all I knew about the series is that it's death scenes were notorious in the anime. I decided to try the book out instead since I don't care too much for gore. Overall, I'm very pleased.

Usually I hate books were the main character is the narrator, but this story is well written. It avoids making the narrator sound immature or cocky like most books would when he/she tells the story. Even the more 'boring' parts of the book were engrossing to read. They do a good job of explaining what precisely is going on in terms of the curse without taking away from it's creepiness.

My only complaints with the book is that the characters seem a bit too mature for their age, and that the book ends. Overall, I fully recommend this novel.
