About Angelic Layer Blu-ray

Angelic Layer contains episodes 1-26 of the anime directed by Hiroshi Nishikiori.

From the moment twelve-year-old Misaki Suzuhara first arrives in Tokyo to live with her aunt, she finds herself swept away by the amazing world of Angelic Layer - a fast-paced high-tech game where dolls called "Angels" are controlled by the thoughts of their operator, or "Deus."

Discovering that her new friends are as interested in Angelic Layer as she is, Misaki builds her own Angel, Hikaru, and begins competing in battles where will and determination count far more than size and strength.

The competitions are going to be fierce and, with the national championships looming on the horizon, you can bet that not everyone Misaki meets will be on her side. Can Misaki handle the pressure of non-stop competition while struggling to adapt to life in an unfamiliar city?

From the amazing minds and pens of Japan's legendary all-female creative team, CLAMP, it's the coming of age adventure that's become an all-time anime classic - ANGELIC LAYER!

The Blu-rays look no better than the original ADV Films DVDs from over 10 years ago.

I loved this one. most of the old adv titles are really good, especially if you have never seen them b4. the English dub is good, music is good, and story is great! the characters are all lovable, and this has an amazing ending. I would have to give this 4.2-4.5 stars. its worth having in your collection! it comes in one small blueray box to fit nicely on your shelf.

A Decent Anime For The Time

Arguably speaking this show started the initial fascination with people (mostly young teens/children) fighting with humanoid toys. The story centers around a young girl who was inspired by the champion doll of the last tournament to start getting into the craze of Angelic Layer. Amidst her journey towards becoming a better player she deals with her emotional issues concerning her long-absent mother. Besides the main protagonist, many around her carry emotional baggage that all eventually confront and deal with throughout the series. The show was a surprising emotional rollercoaster for a show of its time and budget and I applaud their efforts all the more. Both the japanese and english dubs have weak points, but the english one is definitely the more comedic of the two.

Was hooked on episode 1

Unlike the other reviewers, I did not have the DVDs and I also took a chance on this anime and I was not disappointed. This anime had feelings of Bakugan Battle Brawlers meets Metabots meets Capcom fighting games. A brief synopsis without spoiling is a girl moves to Tokyo to live with her Aunt and gets swept up in the new sensation of Angelic Layer after seeing a video of the recent champion. The story follows her journey of beginning play to entering her first tournament and how she progresses in a short time. I really enjoyed the story and it was well executed from start to finish. I give my copy a 4.5 out of 5 because disc one episode three had some graphics issues (became pixelated at the start of the episode but quickly straightened itself out after the show intro). As for the show itself, I’d give a solid 4.75 out of 5 as I enjoyed the story from start to finish. The .25 dock is it could have been trimmed down a little but the side trips were enjoyable.
