At the core of the agency's motivation is a raw, all-consuming fear of an unthinkable, monstrous power known only as Akira.

I saw yu yu hakkusho, then dragon ball, then Dragonball z, then there was some other show that must of been pretty terrible, but when i saw Akira, life changed. I realized the anime was not some stupid cartoon for kids. it became art in a cyberpunk futuristic world with a memorizing story of adventure with everything you would want from a good book in a movie. I think Akira is this reason i like anime and manga to start with. If u like psyren or anything with super-powered children, this is for you.
Read the manga that was adapted into the landmark anime film!

Whether you've seen the movie or not, you've got to read Akira. So much more character development and the movie only covers about 1/3-1/2 of the content but even that is condensed.

I’ve been a fan of akira since it opened my eyes to anime and manga! I read this first volume as a kid and watched the movie religiously! I had not realized how much I was missing out on by not reading the manga. The movie is great and all but maaaaan the manga is ten times better it’s like a whole another story!
