Akira 35th Anniversary Manga Box Set (Hardcover)
About Akira 35th Anniversary Manga Box Set (Hardcover)
Akira 35th Anniversary Edition features story and art by Katsuhiro Otomo. This edition contains an all-new, complete 35th anniversary six volume hardcover box set, with the original Japanese art and right-to-left reading format, plus a hardcover Akira Club art book and an exclusive patch with the iconic pill design.
In 1982, Kodansha published the first chapter of Akira, a dystopian saga set in Neo-Tokyo, a city recovering from thermonuclear attack where the streets have been ceded to motorcycle gangs and the rich and powerful run dangerous experiments on destructive, supernatural powers that they cannot control. In 1988, the manga was adapted into what was at the time the most expensive animated film ever made, which brought Akira’s influence out of the manga world and onto the global stage. Today, it remains a touchstone for artists, writers, filmmakers, and fans, retaining all the brutal impact and narrative intensity it had when Otomo first unleashed it onto the world.

Fantastic set, all of Akira manga in a single massive box
by Stephen L
This is the definitive Akira collection. Kodansha has gone the extra mile with this set to ensure it has everything an Akira manga collector might want. All of the artwork is intact, all of the frames are where they belong, and they use the Japanese reading format so there are no flipped bits of artwork. Also included for the first time are the original Japanese sound effects.
There are a total of 6 hardback books included in the set, each with its own slipcover. This differs slightly from the original Japanese version in that I don't believe they had slipcovers.
Also included is the Akira Club book that has a ton of Akira information that any fan will truly adore.
The box artwork matches the Japanese box, and it's a very high quality set overall.
Highly, VERY highly recommended.
Terrific set!

Ordered this on the recent sale and it is a great set! I've never had a chance to read Akira in it's entirety, and I like that this set is presented in the original format. The books themselves are nice and seem to be bound pretty well, though not as nicely as some other hardcovers I have like High School of the Dead Color Omnibus.
Packaging from Right Stuff was great and everything arrived totally un-crunched despite being a pretty heavy set. I am always appreciative of Right Stuf's attention to detail when it comes to packing stuff up. Plus they use a lot of brown paper which is easily recycled.
Excellent product, great packaging

This is an excellent set for any fan of the series. Beautiful hardcover volumes in a shelf-worthy box and the hard to find art book to boot!
Right Stuf did an excellent job with the packaging, well wrapped, no chance of damage in transit.
Rightstuf for the win
by DJ -
Well worth the purchase. Came very promptly, very carefully packaged. The Akira series has always been a favorite (team Chiyoko!), and I was extremely excited to find these hardbacks with the club art book, pill patch, and 35th anniversary box still sealed, never used, at this price. Rightstuf did not disappoint.
An Amazing Akira Set, For Everyone
by Jer H -
Akira is one of those all-time classics, that anyone who loves manga should definitely check out. This is more a review on the physical set. And if you are looking for a high-quality set, this is the perfect set to get. You get all six volumes of Akira in nice hardcovers (the only way to get hardcover Akira volumes in English), as well as a cool art book, Akira Club, that you also can't get outside this set. And quality of the physical books are good, with good paper bindings and paper quality. And I personally like that these editions are actually in the standard Right-to-left reading direction, unlike the paperback editions.
I got my set a few days ago, and it was really well packaged. And there was no damage to the box or the books. If you are thinking about buying this set, whether new to the manga, and especially if you're a collector, I highly recommend buying this set, and buying it from here for the good packaging.
Top Of The Line Box Set
by Zach -
How can you beat a classic like Akira? Not to mention this is by far the best presentation of this series to date in the west (non-flipped, extras, etc).
The volumes themselves are quality hardcovers with a sewn binding and surprisingly lightweight for their size which makes longer reading sessions more enjoyable. One thing I haven't noticed many people mention is the amazing wrap-around art printed on the books themselves. Personally, I'm displaying them with the dust jackets off cause they look awesome.
GET. IT.
Beautiful art and design

First off packaging was great and product came in almost perfect condition. The manga has beautiful art and an amazing story and is all well put together in this box set and the art book is the cherry on top. And the box itself is beautiful and the box art is incredible. Overall and amazing product and would recommend to anyone collecting, anyone into Akira, or anyone looking for a classic manga to sit back read or just enjoy the beauty of the product as a whole.
Long, fast paced, and engaging
by Kei -
If you've only watched the anime you're missing out. While I loved the anime it was very confusing. Which I immediately understood when this boxset shipped in. This thing is huge. I'm astounded that they tried to fit this into a 3 hour movie. Like the movie it's still very fast paced with very little breaks, however there are so many pieces that the movie just, left out. As much as I loved the movie, it was a poor adaptation of this brilliant classic.
A well worth it purchase
by Justin
I recently bought this and wasn't expecting much, but the quality has been extremely good, the box for the books its self allows you to put it on display in a way I did not expect, the accessory inside I'd very cool, although I probably will keep it in its bag. The art book its self allows you to enjoy a lot, and as for the manga, it is very fast paced and entertaining, it's got a lot of differences from the movoe adaptation that add a lot more to the story and clear up anything that was left open-ended. I highly recommend this manga and boxset.
