A Cute Start
by Ryan
This is a cute start to what feels like is going to be a bit of a long series, and I don't think I'll mind if it does run long (I think I saw it's at something like 8 volumes already). I like how the first-person perspective shifts sometimes between Adachi and Shimamura in different chapters, but I probably enjoy the Adachi ones a bit more because she's so cute and needy in contrast to the socially distant Shimamura. If you're into rooting for characters who have a lot of difficulty and anxiety about opening themselves up, this is probably something to try.
There are only a few illustrations, but they all capture the "key" moments of the story really nicely. I like when the drawings line up that way instead of seeming like just randomly chosen scenes.
Two Delinquents Meet for Ping Pong
by Simon -
I saw the anime and after finishing it I wanted to read the novel. First volume introduced how Adachi and Shimamura meet. I enjoyed reading this since each chapter is from Adachi or Shimamura point of view. You see how they each think or view their friendship. Adachi wants to take off like a rocket and Shimamura takes time to think things through. Also funny how their classmates view Adachi as delinquent and she does skip class or come late. Shimamura almost borderline too but is studious and goody two shoe most of the time.
