Ratings & Reviews
Review for the Series
Ok, now I'm reviewing this series because the first review gave it just 1 star because they epic failed to read the item description, to see how many episodes you get with this set. First off, this series is fantastic, especially if your into Gundam or Mecha in general. The show has great animation, main characters, supporting cast, a great Dub, a great soundtrack, and not to mention the Mecha. If your a fan of all those, you won't be disappointed by this series. The main character, Inaho Kaizuka, is not your typical hero because he's not the badboy type that goes against the rules to win the fight, he uses his nerd knowledge to win battles with his average Mech, its purely awesome! Only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because of the steep price but its a 5 star show in my book!!
74$ for 6 episodes?
First of all, this series is one of the best I've seen in ages. If I could reference the other reviewer above they're absolutely right about the characters, mecha, and quality overall. Fact is they took a tired and dried up genre and created something new and interesting. But the price... 150$ for 12 or 13 episodes... What is this FS/N UBW? Honestly it just leaves a bad taste in my mouth to pay this much, even for an anime as good as this one.
Mainly recommended for huge fans.
This is Aniplex, that means high price and low episode count. While I will say the actual video is fantastic, and the sound is extremely crisp, it is a hard price point to justify. This show is very controversial, so I recommend checking out a few episodes before you commit to buy. As a fan myself, I don't regret the purchase. As I said above, it looks great, sounds great, and includes some nice extras. It's not a particularly stunning release, and definitely lackluster compared to others of similar value. But if you're a huge fan, I don't think it's a terrible purchase and is one i'm happy with having on my shelf.
Good show, bit not for the price
Great show, but it is a sad day when I can import a UK collector's edition with 12 episodes instead of 6 and pay less. Sure, i may need a region free bluray player, but it is cheaper to buy that and the 12-episode UK set than just the 2 6-episode sets here. WAY overpriced!
No lossless audio for English dub! Waaat?!
by Really Happy Aniplex Customer! -
Yeah, so there's only lossy dolby digital 2.0 for the english track. This is very disappointing since it costs $75(!!!!) for this set of six episodes. However, the Japanese is in uncompressed LPCM 2.0 24 bit.
So if you don't have a sound system or don't care much about the english dub, I'd say it's worth a buy. The set itself comes with a nice little booklet and very pretty artwork. The picture quality and the Japanese audio are also exceptional, and the english voice acting is pretty great despite the lossy quality.
I hope Aniplex steps it up, or at least mentions this somewhere on the product description of their site or notify rightstuf cause I'm kinda bummed about this:(
A Gundam series without the Gundam name
by Zapix -
Aldnoah.Zero is something of a Gundam series, or so that's my opinion. It's a story about 2 factions fighting over Earth. One from space (Zeon/Zaft) and the other being the planet dwelling earthlings. Space has superior technology as always. It starts out a lot like Gundam 0079 and SEED. A bunch of civilian refugees on a leaky boat end up drafted by the military to join the fight, do their part, and save the world. There's that boy (Amuro/Kira) who ends up leading the way. There's the main female character that might as well be Lacus Clyne (Gundam SEED) or Relena Peacecraft (Gundam W.) You might also be shocked to see, the battles look like Gundam battles.
So you might ask, if it's such a rip off of Gundam, why the 4 stars? Simple. It's well done. Animation is good, music is good (Hiroyuki Sawano), and even if it comes off as a rehash of Gundam 0079 or SEED, I'm fine with that as long as it entertains me. It did. Take my money!
