Then one day Konatsu sees Koyuki and her classmate Kaede spending time together as if they’re the best of friends, and she can’t contain her agitation. Konatsu and Koyuki feel so strongly about each other that they feel uneasy even when there’s nothing to worry about.

Things Get Heavy

This is the "heaviest" volume in the series so far, but it also felt like it ends on a major turning point going into the next one. The previous volume was pretty much all about Koyuki, so this one is almost entirely centered on Konatsu and her fears of being left behind and lonely. It's hard but relatable to see her trying to bottle herself up.
There are also some really creative moments involving using the salamander. They're artistically interesting, but for someone like me who is kind of grossed out by lizards, sometimes it was hard for me to look at the big ugly thing. But I guess that's part of what makes it effective, since Konatsu's fears come from a rather "ugly" side of human emotions.
