What If Kevin Smith Directed an Anime?

by -

While it is a slice-of-life show, it's not warm n' fuzzy like other slice-of-life shows.

If you can get past the opening scene, you'll find a show that's about twentysomething light novel writers trying to live their lives. The humor can be crass and crude at times, but it's also quite funny.

The characters are quite interesting to watch. Each had their own flaws and quirks. Each struggle with writing their books as well as relating to each other in their own fashions.

If I have to describe it in one sentence, it would be this: What if Kevin Smith directed an anime? It reminds me of some of his down-to-earth films such as "Chasing Amy" among other films.

My only complaint would be that the series ended too soon with some questions unanswered...

I enjoyed this more than I thought (4.5/5)

I was really surprised by this one. I figured it was gonna be a ecchi harem anime with not much of a story. Heck, the very first scene is pretty risqué fan service with some pretty distinct kinks. But as it goes on, yes it does have fan service, but it also has some good comedy and more precisely character development. You get a feel for these characters and what their going through. I also like the games they play. It’s a nice change of pace and I like their interactions with them. The creator also made Haganai and I like this one much more. Characters are more likable and I just overall enjoyed this one more. The biggest downside is that this anime doesn’t feel complete. It leaves open questions and plot points that don’t get resolved. Also the last episode doesn’t feel like a last episode. It again leaves things open for more, but this came out in 2017, so chances are low. In all, I enjoyed this more than I thought. It’s funny, can be off at times, and is entertaining. Recommended.
