A "Different" Kind of Romance
by Luis
If you are familiar with Asano's work, than you probably know what you're signing up for. Brilliant art, pragmatic storytelling, realistic drama, and psychologically intriguing characters from the mind of one of the most talented mangaka working today. A Girl on the Shore, while brief, leaves a lasting impact on readers with a very different and mature take on a slice of life romance series. At times cynical and even mean-spirited, this is not a manga for younger readers. That said, if you are looking for a short, dark, and unorthodox romance drama or are just a fan of Inio Asano's works than this is sure to be a worthy edition to your shelf.
Heavy and Hardhitting
by Laethas -
This manga is as dramatic as it is dark, and Inio Asano really nails it with this short, yet oh-so-good story. As grim as this story gets, and as hopeless as you feel things might be, it will keep pulling you through the pages until you realize you're at the end. An amazingly fantastic read, and one that is an absolute steal for the price. It's a complete package that really delivers on just about everything it was trying to say. Really well done, and one I consider a must-read.
For a Niche Audience
by Noah -
Inio Asano continues to right fantastic story with realistic relationships. A Girl on the Shore shows the struggles of finding a relationship and the effects of peer pressure. It's definitely for a niche audience but for those in the audience it's amazing.
Best Manga
by Feliciana
This is my favorite manga ever, it has great art and a amazing story. It shows two amazing views of one relationship which both plays with your emotions and really forces you to deal with them. I personally like this book because its a intense teen romance that really pulls you in and allows you to experience practical drama and realism in a relationship.
A twisted relationship story
by DaemonCorps
Asano Inio is a master of telling depressing stories about lonely people. And while a story that essentially is centered around "friends with benefits," may be off-putting to most, if you're able to look past that, it's a touching story that really gets down into the nitty-gritty of depression and isolation, even when at your most intimate.
for mature audiences
by Audrey -
This is definitely for mature audiences because it has a bunch of explicit scenes. I love Asano's art style and other works and this manga definitely didn't disappoint.

A twisted and yet realistic depiction of romance
by Frank -
"A Girl on the Shore" is a melancholic story that realistically explores the meanings of true love, relationships, sex, regrets, mistakes and so much more in an impressively effective manner, especially for its length. Its portrayal of sex, however, can be, although usually uncomfortably authentic and necessary for its story and themes, overly excessive.
Complete toxic bs
by Kelly
This book is what is wrong with people in general. Don't read it unless you want to feel like crap. The story keeps you reading hoping there is some sort of redemption that honestly never comes. It's very relatable especially if you had a toxic high school experience. I did like how it showed both sides of the relationship, yet it made the story hurt more.
The author is known for their deep story lines and fantastic art. It was definitely that.
Yet if you have any sexual trauma or suicide triggers please do yourself a favor and not read it. It's not for the faint of heart.
Depressing
by Joshua -
This was my first Inio Asano manga that I had read so going into this manga I kind of had high expectations after hearing about how good Inio Asano was as a writer and artist and I feel like most of my expectations were met. The story was well written and the art is just outstanding, the way Asano can draw different character expressions and backgrounds just blows my mind. My only problem with this manga were the characters especially the main one. I liked most of the characters and I feel like the reason of why they do what they do in the manga is understandable. But I feel like the main character just did not get that much development compared to the other main character Isobe, but that is just my opinion. In the end I thought the ending was well done and apart from that problem I really did enjoy this story and would recommend it to somebody who wants a sad manga to read.
