About 86 Eighty-Six Novel Volume 1

86 Eighty Six Novel Volume 1 was written by Asato Asato with illustrations by Shirabi.

The San Magnolia Republic has long been under attack by unmanned weapons from the neighboring Empire. Against this onslaught, the Republic has also deployed similar weapons, narrowly avoiding great loss of life and impending disaster-or at least that's how it seemed.

The truth is that it has never been possible to have no casualties. Young men and women drawn from the Republic's supposedly non-existent 86th district are organized into the "86 unit" and then ordered to pilot the "unmanned weapons" before heading to battle.

This LN is so great, it's hard to put into words. You feel invested in the characters, and even though it has a dystopian setting, it has light hearted moments as well. It doesn't have a lot of fan service, if any at all, but the characters are still described beautifully and adequately. The plot, story, and events are realistic and challenge the norm. It tugs at the heartstrings, and even though the ending is super satisfying, it leaves you yearning for a sequel. I can't wait until the next volume :D

A pleasant surprise

by -

This book was quite the surprise for me, I don't typically go for the dystopian sci-fiction kind of setting but it's written beautifully. This book had me on edge trying to unravel character motives and piece together this strange world from beginning to end and I absolutely would advise you to pick it up! I do wonder how the sequel will be managed as the story actually progresses at a nice pace instead of stalling like so many other light novels.

Best Military Light Novel I've Read

This is a great read for action, horror, and military story fans. Well-written, engaging, and at times emotional. One of the best light novels I've read.

I have heard so much about the series that I decided to give this LN a try. I do not usually read LNs so this was one of my first. After reading the first volume, I am hooked. Every character is well written and the way the author explains and describes events is well organized. It also helps that there are a few drawings of the characters and the machines. 86 has action, drama, mystery, romance, and mecha. If you are a fan of any of those genres, you would love 86.

A must buy for light novel readers!!

by -

This light novel completely blew my expectations. I've heard so many good things about this series, hence why I decided to buy it, but it still blew me away. It's dark, the story is superb, the characters are amazing, the character interactions are great, and the illustrations are phenomenal! Few stories have really made me feel things at the end and this is one of them!

LN is boring--will the manga be better?

Two major things are wrong with this boring novel. First, it's a post-apocalyptic story where everybody distrusts and uses everybody else. Yeah, that's never been done before...
Second, it's poorly written or translated (not sure which) and can't hold my attention for more than a couple of pages. I got to about the halfway point of the book and had to give up trying to read any further.
The main characters are forgettable stereotypes, while the minor characters are all throwaways. None of them are interesting or appealing in any way.
The dialogue is the usual post-apocalyptic drivel, written in a way that's supposed to make it sound profound but instead makes it hackneyed and trite.
About the only appealing part of the book are the LN graphics, and even they are nothing special.
I hope the manga is better, because the LN volumes are expensive wastes of paper.

Very Well Written

I decided to finally pick up this novel after the announcement for the anime and I was not disappointed. I enjoy the sci-fi mech wartime setting and I thought that the addition of schematic illustrations for the different mech types was very helpful when reading through the fight scenes. I think that the characters were well written and had understandable motivations to do as they did. My favorite part was watching Lena's character progression throughout the story as she became more and more aware of her situation. Overall, great read!

Long Live The Spearhead Squadron

For people who enjoy analytical books this is a great choice. In addition I would pick it up if you enjoy a grittier type of book that focuses on more than just the good guy saving the day.
