About 20th Century Boys The Perfect Edition Manga Volume 1

20th Century Boys: The Perfect Edition Manga Volume 1 features story and art by Naoki Urasawa.

A deluxe bind-up edition of Naoki Urasawa’s award-winning epic of doomsday cults, giant robots, and a group of friends trying to save the world from destruction!

Humanity, having faced extinction at the end of the 20th century, would not have entered the new millennium if it weren’t for them. In 1969, during their youth, they created a symbol. In 1997, as the coming disaster slowly starts to unfold, that symbol returns. This is the story of a group of boys who try to save the world.

The best way to experience the beginning of the series.

by -

This is a really nice release of the first two volumes of the series in one. The quality of the book is very nice and I did not notice any errors on my first read. It is what you would expect from a nice Viz volume.

My only complaint is that it is hard to read the larger lettering on the front of the book as it is pretty much invisible unless you have light reflecting off of it. The cover art is really good though.

One of the best!

This is, without a question, one of the best manga's I have ever read. The writing is GREAT, the art work is well done and clean, the story is compelling as a sci fi and as an emotional character focused work. If you are into smart discussion of death cults, conspiracies, taste of life, and discussions on aging, friendship this is for you. If I could id give this, and vol. 2 six stars!

This edition is simply amazing, paper quality is nice, size is very comfortable and has some color pages. Best part is that it onomatopoeias are in japanese, a nice detail.

Great start

This is the first of 11 volumes of 20th century boys, and it is a very good start. it introduces our main character in a subtle way and also introduces many smaller plot points that later evolve into this massive story. I highly recommend this story for a real nice sci-fi adventure story full of twists and unexpected suprises.

Lives Up to The Hype

by -

Got this series blind, just went off of what the general opinion of the series was (that it was a masterpiece). I thoroughly enjoyed this first volume, it sets the stage for the rest of the story beautifully. My biggest problem was how quickly they introduced a large pool of characters, I had a hard time keeping track of all the names. That small issue aside, I really liked this volume, I will definitely get the rest of the series.

Great Story

by -

One of the most intricate series that I can recommend. The series starts off maybe a bit slow but definitely picks up with some crazy plot twists. Can it even be called a plot twist when you can't predict what's going to happen??

The quality of the Viz Signature series are amazing and this series is the same. The only complaint I have is that the glossary for the sound effects are in the back instead of on the same page but it doesn't detract from the story at all.

Definitely give one of Urasawa's works a shot!

A twisted good read

by -

The story may time-jump a bunch at the start, but you get used to it, once you realize its all character-development for later on. Everything is beautifully connected, even when you don't know it yet! The glossy cover is wonderful and holds together "Perfect", as you would expect from this Edition! A wonderful manga for anyone who wants a lesser-known series that everyone can enjoy!

20th century review.

This series is amazing. The characters, art, and story are all great. Paper quality is good, and each volume is around 400 pages! Urasawa is master of his craft.
