Understated beauty and brilliance

by

Occasionally I take a chance, and buy an anime I've never heard of. Sometimes I get a good one, sometimes not... and sometimes, I discover a gem of an anime that I wish I had known of sooner.

Sound of the Sky is one of those gems. Perhaps there's nothing ground-breaking about it; it's not huge in scope, nor is it vast in its storytelling. But it is achingly well done, with characters you grow to care about, fantastic visuals, and a story that actually has a resolution. My only complaint is that I wish it were longer.

Hidden Gem

by

Its simply brilliant story telling, a great cast of characters a very good score. There are times when it seems to slow down but these episodes are either very moving or important. Mostly an all female cast with a few male characters, there is lots of character development, especially the main character Kanata. The story basically is set in a post-apocalyptic setting in a very distant future and a large world war returned the world to early 20th century life. The small female platoon keeps watch over a town fortress while at the same time the girls try to figure out what happened in the past, how to fix the spider tank sitting in their garage, and keeping everyone safe. there is way too much to go into here. It's got mystery through each episode, and there is plenty of good and tasteful humor as well as great music. You have to see it to truly appreciate it. I wish there was a second season to this but it it can do without one. A hidden gem that is worth watching.

Great Series

by

This is an excellent slice of life (sol) series-what I liked the best was the sound track, very good music. The characters look like refugees from K On. If you want this you'd better get it soon as the license expires this year.
